SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was wounded in a shooting outside an El Cerrito smoke shop, police said Monday.The shooting happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday outside Aztec Smoke Shop, in a strip mall near the corner of 60th Street and El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.The victim, a 22-year-old man, was confronted by two men as he was getting into his car after exiting the smoke shop, Buttle said.The two men shot the victim four times, then fled the scene eastbound on El Cajon Boulevard in a gray VW Jetta, the officer said.The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to his chest and leg, Buttle said, adding that the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.Both suspects were described as 5-foot-11 Black men in their early 20s with thin builds. SAN DIEGO (CNS and KGTV) - A San Diego County Superior Court judge ruled Monday in favor of conditional release for a sexually violent predator known as the "Bolder than Most'' rapist.Judge David M. Gill made the controversial decision for Alvin Ray Quarles, 56.Some of those who were in the courtroom when the decision was announced were visibly upset, 10News reporter Jon Horn said. One person yelled, others were in tears.Last fall, Gill ordered that Quarles be released, a decision that prosecutors, along with county Supervisor Dianne Jacob, requested Gill reconsider. Since that time, the agreement to rent the residence in Jacumba Hot Springs has fallen through, and Gill allowed for further argument toward a possible reconsideration of his decision to release Quarles. Gill heard testimony during a closed-door evidentiary hearing last week, which was kept under wraps due to privacy concerns over the potential disclosure of Quarles' psychiatric reports. Quarles' victims and their supporters have argued against the order to keep the hearings private, including by staging a protest on the steps of the downtown San Diego courthouse where the hearings were held. Quarles was dubbed the "Bolder than Most'' rapist because of the way he attacked his victims, at knifepoint, sometimes forcing the women's husbands or boyfriends to watch. He pleaded guilty in 1989 to committing more than a dozen sexual assaults in the mid-to-late 1980s and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.Prior to Quarles' release from prison, the District Attorney's Office filed a petition to have him civilly committed as a sexually violent predator. In 2014, Quarles was committed to the Department of State Hospitals to undergo sex offender treatment. In September 2016, Quarles petitioned the court to be granted release through the Conditional Release Program for sex offenders.Quarles will return to the hospital where he has been held until it's determined where he will be placed. (KGTV) -- California State Senator Brian Jones tested positive for coronavirus, he announced on Twitter Wednesday.Jones said he learned of his positive test result after returning to Sacramento for the end of the session.According to Jones’ Twitter, the State Senator plans to take additional tests to rule out a possible false positive.“In the meantime, he’ll be following CDC and CDPH protocols for those receiving a positive test result,” a spokesperson said.The news comes as 228 more people throughout San Diego County tested positive for the virus Wednesday.So far, more than 37,000 people in San Diego County have tested positive for COVID-19. 677
