SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On the edge of Balboa Park, parkgoers arrived Wednesday to a fresh layer of graffiti across a popular playground area.Joanne Schara leads a boot camp class at Bird Park at Upas three times a week. After a year of working out there, the things that drew her are now awash in graffiti. "It's just sad to see. You come here because you want a happy space. People bring their kids. People bring their pets. Its beautiful," said Schara.The tagging is everywhere, from the tables and benches and the wall wrapping around the playground area to utility boxes and graffiti on the ground."Doesn't give a good image at all," said Schara.Cathy Lea has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years and takes her dogs to the park twice a day."When I see the graffiti, it's disheartening," said Schara.Lea says every few days, there is more graffiti. On the concrete wall that surrounds the park, there are countless layers of tagging that have been painted over, only to be tagged again."That's not what this park is about," said Lea.On the Nextdoor app, some longtime neighbors posted the current graffiti is the "worst they've ever seen." Lately the graffiti has started to creep into areas previously untouched, including the playground set and the nearby rocks. As the tagging spreads, so does the frustration."It's not the kind of message we want to be sending in North Park," said Lea.Several neighbors have posted on the city's Get It Done app to get it cleaned up. Parkgoers worry it'll be tagged as soon as it's cleaned up. 1542

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One person is dead following a crash along Interstate 8 in the College Area Thursday afternoon.According to California Highway Patrol, several vehicles were involved in a crash on westbound Interstate 8 at Waring Road near Toyota San Diego.CHP confirmed that the crash involved several vehicles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - President Trump's call for some teachers to be armed is sparking local debate.Linda bought her first handgun three years ago for personal protection. She's a local music teacher at elementary, middle and high schools who applauds the President's idea. "It's a good idea because we're going against violence people doing violent things. I can't protect all 30 of my students with pencils, erasers and rulers," said Linda.RELATED: Trump pushing to 'finally do something' on gunsEric Heins, President of the California Teachers Association, is in town for the state Democratic convention and says schools should not be a war zone. "To try and militarize a student campus by introducing more guns is insane. On a practical level, it wouldn't work," said Heins.He says teachers are simply not trained to deal with shooters armed with assault rifles, trying to figure out who and what to shoot at.RELATED: University in Florida to allow teachers, staff to carry guns through program with sheriff's office"It's a recipe for unintentional disaster," said Heins.But Linda, who owns concealed weapons permits in five states, says teachers can be trained. She's gone through extensive firearms training the last three years."Teachers can be trained to eliminate the threat, to stop a threat," said Linda.Heins says resources would be better spent on counselors, psychologists and other things to address the cause of the violence. Linda says those causes should be addressed, but armed teachers are needed as a final defense. 1566

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a sexual assault suspect who forced a woman into his truck and drove to another area to assault her this week.The suspect drove alongside the 27-year-old woman in the 3900 block of Delta Street just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday, San Diego Police said. The man exited the truck and threatened to use a Taser on the woman if she didn't comply with his demands.Police said he forced the woman into his truck, drove to an unknown area near 39th St. and Broadway, and sexually assaulted the woman. He then drove to the area of 32nd St. and National Ave. and let the woman go after she pleaded with him, police said.The man is described as a black male between 40- and 50-years-old, with short black hair, and a graying goatee. He weighs an estimated 160 to 170 pounds and stands about 5-foot, 6-inches tall. He was last seen wearing a black or dark blue t-shirt and gray basketball shorts.The man's vehicle is described as an older model white extended-cab pickup truck, possibly with a blue stripe on the side.Chula Vista Police reported a similar incident with a similarly described suspect and vehicle happened in their area. Video captured the vehicle in the vicinity of the E St. trolley station in Chula Vista. The low humidity that's coming along with it, and the warmer than average temperatures," Sanchez said.Sanchez asked everyone to do their part, "to get your defensible clearance in and be careful when you're out and about in order to avoid accidentally starting a fire," so they can protect your home.LATEST WEATHER FORECASTHe advised against using powered tools like chainsaws and lawnmowers, saying if they hit a rock, they could spark.
