BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao celebrated the successful return of Chinese taikonauts who had completed the country's third manned space mission on Sunday.     Together with other senior officials and officers at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center (BACC), Wen watched the re-entry of Shenzhou-7 space module to Earth in a live transmission. China's Shenzhou-7 spacecraft's re-entry module lands safely in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.After the module landed in China's northern grassland and the three taikonauts Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming, and Jing Haipeng moved out of the spaceship by themselves, Wen congratulated the victory with the technical staff members and operators in the center.     Delivering a congratulatory note from the central authorities, Wen said the mission was "a victory of the Chinese space and technological field and a monumental achievement in the socialist causes". BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The government has cut back on import taxes on spare parts of large equipment and canceled the import tariff exemption on some complete sets.     The adjustments were made to support the domestic manufacturing of large equipment, said the Ministry of Finance.     Taxes levied on domestic enterprises for importing key spare parts of large equipment, including ultra- and extra-high voltage transmission equipment and transformers, large petro-chemical equipment and large coal-chemical equipment, would be refunded and injected into the enterprises as investment from the nation, it said.     The policy applied to imports after Jan. 1, 2008, depending on the date of declaration of imports.     In the meantime, the import of some complete sets of equipment by enterprises approved after Sept. 1, 2008 would no longer enjoy the tax exemption. Both domestic and foreign-funded projects are subject to the new policy, the ministry said.     Imports of such equipment by enterprises approved before Sept. 1 would continue to enjoy the previous tax policies until March 1,2009.

BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhua) -- As the special guests of Chinese President Hu Jintao, 88 students from the quake-hit areas on Wednesday visited Zhongnanhai, the compound of central authorities, and had a joyous time with grandpa Hu before going to Russia for recuperation.     "I hope all you schoolmates will rest well and recover as soon as possible with the help of Chinese and Russian teachers. I also hope that you will take this rare opportunity to make friends with Russian pals and be the little envoys for our two countries," Hu told the children.     These middle and elementary school students, who come from western China's Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces severely stricken by the May 12 earthquake, represent 1,000 children who are going to Russia for further recovery. We will help arrange your life and study well, and ensure that you grow up as happy and healthy as all the other children."     Hu carefully examined the injuries on some children and expressed the hope that they would, after coming through the calamity, become braver and tougher to overcome any difficulty in their future life.     Hu urged the students to help each other when going out of the country and wished them a wonderful time in Russia.     During the activity, Hu also met with a senior official with the Russian embassy to China and expressed his gratitude for all the help Russia offered since the quake.     "During the disaster, the Russian government and people offered us timely help, and you invited more than 1,000 quake-hit middle and primary school students to go to Russia for recovery. All these show Russian people's love for the Chinese. And it once again proves that we two countries are real good neighbors and friends," said Hu.     The death toll from the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan Province, southwest China, stood at 69,197 as of Wednesday noon, and a total of 18,238 people were still missing.

You have been on the frontline to assist quake victims when bearing great pains of losing the beloved. All of us should learn from you."     A day after the quake, Jiang learnt that ten members of her family living in Beichuan county, one of the worst-hit areas, passed away including her only daughter.     She was working as a police officer in the neighboring city Pengzhou.     "I felt that the sky was falling. I can't believe that. I had just talked with my baby girl on phone a day ago," she once recalled the dark moment in an interview.     But Jiang did not leave her post as more and more displaced people came to Pengzhou from quake-hit areas and the police had to help them settle down. In the week following the earthquake, she had worked at temporary shelter camps and barely slept until she fainted on the spot and was sent to hospital.     Jiang has showed the best of Chinese police officers, Zhou said.     He hoped that local police officers and those from other parts of China to assist quake relief would stick to such a noble spirit to work together and well serve their duty in a bid to help create a stable society in the quake-affected areas.     Jiang said she would not fail the Party and people's expectation and work harder in her own post.

ROME, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Food security in China is guaranteed despite the recent major earthquake and heavy snowfalls earlier this year, China's Agriculture Minister Sun Zhengcai said in an interview with Xinhua.     "The earthquake will not change the nation-wide situation of agricultural production this year since local output of the affected area is quite small compared to that of the whole country," Sun said, who was attending a world summit here on soaring food prices, hosted by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).     An 8.0-magnitude earthquake hit southwestern China in May, with its epicenter in Wenchuan County, a mountainous area of Sichuan province, with the death toll currently at over 70,000 people and causing massive economic loss.     Sun acknowledged local agricultural production was in no way immune from damage. The harvest season for nearly 19,000 hectares of wheat in Taizhou started on June 3.    "The damage was mainly to planted crops and livestock," he said, adding an urgent harvesting and planting effort has helped minimize the impact and which had no national implications.     The devastating earthquake struck following severe snow and ice storms that swept southern China early this year, giving rise to concerns about food shortages in the world's most populous country.     However, Sun said food security remains guaranteed because of sufficient stockpiles and a big harvest ahead.     "This year, China's agriculture has prevailed over disasters of snow and ice storms and the extremely severe earthquake, and our summer grains and oilseeds are set to harvest good crops," he said.     Since 2004, food production in China has increased for four consecutive years and the total grain output exceeded 500 million tons last year.     Sun said China's grain reserves are currently abundant and there is enough supply of major farm products to offset the effects of the two natural disasters.     If there are no more major disasters, China is expected to have a big summer harvest this year, with grain output set to rise for the fifth consecutive year. Even in southern China, oilseeds, which had been feared to drop due to the snowfalls, would reverse the declining trend in the previous three years.     Sun said as a huge, developing country with 1.3 billion people, China has always paid great attention to food and agricultural development.     The Chinese government will continue to adhere to the food security policy of basic self-sufficiency, complemented by imports and exports to readjust surplus and shortfalls, he said.
