NEW YORK (AP) — Martha Stewart's first Uber ride was not a good thing.Stewart ordered the "most expensive version" Monday outside Tiffany's flagship store in New York City. As Stewart explained on Instagram , she wanted to be picked up on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street.Stewart wrote the first car did not show up and the second parked "halfway down" the street where she "could not see the license plate." That car was pointed in the wrong direction, delaying her journey as the car snaked through midtown Manhattan traffic.But the worst part was the car "was a mess inside and out!!!!!!!!" NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — President Donald Trump thanked an Indiana teacher for helping thwart a school shooting on Friday at Noblesville West Middle School outside of Indianapolis."Thanks to very brave Teacher & Hero Jason Seaman of Noblesville, Indiana, for his heroic act in saving so many precious young lives. She was 71.The Associated Press reported that Reinking's manager Lee Gross confirmed that the actress died Saturday while visiting family in Seattle.According to Variety, Christopher Dean, who teaches dance to Reinking's niece, first announced Reinking's passing on his Facebook page. 401
NEW ORLEANS — A Black man whose life sentence for stealing hedge clippers in a home burglary drew scathing criticism from the chief justice of Louisiana's Supreme Court has been granted parole. Louisiana's high court had denied release for 63-year-old Fair Wayne Bryant earlier this year for the 1997 burglary that netted him a set of hedge clippers. In dissent, Chief Justice Bernette Johnson said the habitual offender law under which Bryant was sentenced was a “modern manifestation” of Jim Crow era laws aimed at jailing Black people for simple crime. NEW YORK CITY — Police say they have arrested a man after he allegedly pushed a woman onto subway tracks as a train was arriving at the Union Square station Thursday morning.The NYPD said a call came in just before 8:30 a.m. local time after a woman was shoved off the subway platform and onto the tracks of the No. 4, 5 and 6 subway lines.Surveillance video shows the suspect waiting and then suddenly push the woman, 40, onto the tracks in front of the oncoming train.The FDNY rushed to the scene and helped the victim off the tracks, while a New York City Transit platform controller subdued the suspect, holding him down until police arrived, authorities said.The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and only suffered minor injuries, authorities said.NYPD Chief of Transit Kathleen O'Reilly said on Twitter that "charges are forthcoming and this case will be prosecuted to the fullest extent."The incident caused delays and service impacts along the No. 4? and ?5? train lines, the MTA said. 1004
