PARIS, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Paris on Sunday to attend the opening ceremony of an international conference on climate change.
In April 1993, the heads of the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation met there to hammer out the common understanding now known as the "1992 Consensus," laying the groundwork for the situation witnessed today.
During Xi's visit to Singapore, top leaders of the two countries had candid, cordial and in-depth discussion on bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues of common interest, and reached broad consensus in many areas, according to a joint statement issued at the end of Xi's state visit.
He urged Chinese companies to invest in the country's prioritized energy sector, saying the government is ready to provide the necessary incentives.
"While pushing for a more proactive strategy of opening up, we will build a new system of open economy with an even higher level of openness," said the Chinese president.
