A driver who ignored barricades on a Pawnee County Road was hospitalized after his vehicle was swallowed by a sinkhole, authorities say.Four county deputy units and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the wreck on County Road 5715 just outside the Arkansas River community of Blackburn before 11 p.m. on Wednesday. According to investigators, the man drove around multiple ODOT barricades. A fisherman reportedly witnessed it. The road has broken apart in pieces in recent days, with entire portions of it missing due to massive flooding.The vehicle had to be left in the sinkhole overnight because crews were unable to recover it. They are expected to remove it today.Mercy EMS transported the man, who has not yet been identified, to a Tulsa hospital so he could be treated for head trauma, officials say. A 14-year-old girl was killed and four others injured when falling rocks hit their car at the Glacier National Park in Montana.The rocks hit the top of the car Monday night and shattered the rear windshield. In addition to killing the girl, rocks also injured her parents and two other children in the vehicle, the park said in a statement.It estimated the rocks were between fist-sized and 12 inches in diameter along with enough debris from the rockfall to fill the bed of a pickup truck. The incident happened near the East Tunnel on the popular and mountainous Going-to-the-Sun Road.An ambulance that responded could not airlift the girl because of her unstable condition, the park said.Flight paramedics traveled with her using ground ambulance to Kalispell, Montana. She died while being transported to a local hospital, the park said."The two adults suffered significant bruises and were transported to area hospitals. The two other children in the vehicle had minor injuries and also went by ambulance to the hospital," the park said.The victims were visiting from Utah, and authorities will release their names once family notifications are complete. A man suspected of killing a police officer this week in Newman, California, has been arrested, according to Deputy Blake Edwards with the Kern County Sheriff's Office.The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department announced that Gustavo Perez Arriaga was arrested this morning at a home in Bakersfield, California. Arriaga was arrested and will be transported to Stanislaus County. Arriaga will be charged with homicide.Adrian Virgen and Erik Razo Quiroz were arrested yesterday for allegedly helping Arriaga escape after he allegedly shot and killed Corporal Singh. Virgen and Quiroz were arrested for accessory after the fact to a felony.The 33-year-old police officer, Singh, pulled over a man just before 1 a.m. Wednesday and a few moments later called out "shot fired" over the radio.Singh was found shot by other officers and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.The Stanislaus County Sheriff said Singh was conducting a traffic stop for a suspicion of driving under the influence when the shooting occurred.Singh was a native of Fiji and joined the force in July 2011. 1110

A family from Connecticut got quite the surprise when their 10-year-old son was called for jury duty.Fifth grade student Nick Dondero received the letter in the mail summoning him to show up.While the family found it a bit comical, they’re wondering how it even happened in the first place.Nick’s mom laughed about it and tucked it away.“Two, three weeks later, I’m going through to pay bills and I’m like ‘oh my gosh, I never sent this back,” she said.Each year, more than 550,000 people in Connecticut are selected for jury duty.The Connecticut Judicial Branch gets a list of names from four places: The Dept. of Motor Vehicles, the Dept. of Labor, Registrar of Voters, and the Dept. of Revenue Services.The list of names the Judicial Branch gets from Revenue Services does not include the date of birth. That is where Nick’s name came from and why he was summoned.“I was wondering what if I don’t go, I wanted to know if that was going to be a problem,” Nick said.It wasn’t a problem.The Judicial Branch said the Dondero family did the right thing. They checked a box on the summons letter saying he was underage and sent it back.Now, 10-year-old Nick is in the clear and does not have to report for jury duty. 1225
