Here's some good news for drivers in the United States: Gasoline could fall below a gallon for many Americans later this year.Retail gas prices have been falling steadily for several weeks now. The national average currently stands at .72 a gallon for regular gas, according to AAA, down 17 cents from the 2019 high in early May and down 7 cents in just the past week.Wholesale prices are falling even faster, suggesting that prices at the pump should continue to fall."Pretty much every portion of the country should see drops between now and the end of next week," said Tom Kloza, head of energy analysis for the Oil Price Information Service.Most of the decline is because of falling oil prices, in part thanks to booming US oil production. That has made up for cuts in production by OPEC nations designed to support prices. Oil prices have also fallen in part because of weaker-than-expected demand for gasoline in international markets, particularly China, where slowing economic activity has cut into auto sales.Gasoline prices have fallen fastest in parts of the country where gas was the norm at the end of last month. In California, which still has the highest average price at .86 a gallon, prices have fallen by 23 cents. And wholesale prices in the West are falling even faster than elsewhere in the country as refineries there that had been shut come back online."[Gas prices] should continue to fall as we move through the summer," said Kloza. "There's a high probability we'll be paying less than .50 in the next few months."The national average price will probably decline even more — perhaps to .25 a gallon according to Kloza — later in the year. For the second time this week, a deadly shooting unfolded at a US Navy base Friday when a gunman killed at least three people and injured several others at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida.The suspected shooter, who was also killed, was a member of the Saudi Arabian military training at the station, according to five US defense officials and another person familiar with the investigation.Investigators are looking into whether the shooting was terror-related as a possible motive, but it's still early in the investigation.CNN has reached out to the Saudi Embassy in the US and has not heard back.The shooter was killed after two deputies exchanged gunfire with him, Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan told reporters in a news conference.The FBI has taken over the investigation, according to an FBI spokeswoman.Eight people were taken to Baptist Health Care, including one who died, said Chief Deputy Chip Simmons. The deputies who confronted the shooter also suffered gunshot wounds -- one in the arm and one in the knee. According to the NFPA, nearly 160 house fires per year are sparked by Christmas trees. These fires caused an average of three deaths, 15 injuries, and million in direct property damage annually, the NFPA said. A plurality of Christmas tree fires from 2013 through 2017, roughly 44 percent, were caused by electrical distribution or lighting within the tree. Another 25 percent of Christmas tree fires were from a heat source, such as a candle, being too close to a tree. The NFPA also found that 21 percent of Christmas tree fires were intentionally set. In 2017, the National Institute of Science and Technology released a video showing the fire danger a tree not watered can pose. The video showed that a spark to a dry tree could ignite an entire tree within several seconds, engulfing an entire room seconds later. A watered tree failed to ignite in the same fashion. Although buying an artificial tree likely decreases the risk of a fire, for every three fires sparked by a real Christmas tree, one is caused by an artificial tree.The National Fire Protection Association released Christmas tree fire prevention tips:· Choose a tree with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched.· Before placing the tree in the stand, cut 2” from the base of the trunk.· Make sure the tree is at least three feet away from any heat source, like fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights.· Make sure the tree is not blocking an exit.· Add water to the tree stand. Be sure to add water daily.· Use lights that have the label of a recognized testing laboratory. Some lights are only for indoor or outdoor use.· Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections.
