SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  It was a normal Thursday night for Rob Perelman. His Uber app was on and he was picking up passengers in San Diego. Then suddenly, things changed and his passengers got violent. You may have seen the video by now - a car crashing in Banker's Hill after the passengers began violently beating the driver.RELATED: Uber driver attacked by drunk passengersFriday, Perelman spoke for the first time about his early-morning attack. He told 10News what happened Friday morning isn't an Uber problem - they were just bad apples. "I've done 4,999 rides with good people," Perelman said. "And one with a bad person."Perelman gave that bad ride sometime after 1:00 a.m. Friday. He picked up the passengers in Banker's Hill and almost immediately realized they were drunk. "My gut feeling said to drive away," he said. "But I'm here to give people rides home, and I said you know what, 'we've all been the drunk guy just trying to get home from the bar, let me give these guys a ride home.'"MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodHe only made it two blocks. "The guy in the back seat starts puking out the window...and if he can't make it two blocks, he's definitely not going to make it 10 minutes," Perelman said. So he pulled over and asked the two to get out of his car. He told 10News that he even tried opening the door for one of them."Still nothing happening, so I say a third time, 'get out of the vehicle or I'm calling 911,'" Perelman said. That's when things got dangerous, and the passenger next to him attacked with a fury of punches."And he's not stopping, he's just beyond the point now," Perelman said. "Probably doesn't know what he's doing, just starts throwing punches at my head, I can't get him to stop. I've got my glasses on, he knocks my glasses off."Perelman says he was left with two options. Take the beating or jump out of the car. He took option two, jumping out of the car while it was still in drive and running to a nearby house to call the police.After the car crashed, the passengers seemed to have a moment of clarity and took off. Perelman says he left behind a shoe, a cell phone and ,000 dollars in damages to his car.Even though he had a bad experience, Perelman says he just wants to get back on the road. "I'm just happy that I was able to get out safely and I've got a few bruises on my head, but I was able to walk away, so I'm lucky that it didn't escalate," Perelman said. "I don't know if he has a gun or knife, I just said let me get out of the car I don't care about the vehicle right now."Since Uber knows who the men are, the plan now is to find them and press charges.10News reached out to Uber about the attack. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A car crashed Monday afternoon into the front of a Pacific Beach 7-Eleven, destroying a portion of the store.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the incident happened near Cass Street and Loring Street.Crews said the elderly man who was driving hit the gas instead of the brakes, and the car slammed through a window of the convenience store up to its windshield.The driver, customers, and the clerk working at the counter were not hurt.The car also missed the propane tanks stored in a metal cage outside the store. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 2-year-old boy who was reported missing by his stepfather in San Diego in 2002 suffered a fatal injury and died while in the sole custody and care of the stepfather, who disposed of the body, a prosecutor said Thursday, but a defense attorney said her client loved the child and didn't kill him.Tieray Jones, 39, told police that Jahi Turner disappeared from a park near the southern end of Balboa Park the afternoon of April 25, 2002.Deputy District Attorney Bill Mitchell told a jury that Jones married Jahi's mother -- Tameka Jones -- after Jahi was born and the couple moved to San Diego from Maryland in February 2002.The defendant was left to care for Jahi when Tameka Jones -- who was in the Navy -- went out to sea on April 22, 2002, the prosecutor said.Three days later, the defendant called 911 and said his step son disappeared in the park when the defendant walked to a vending machine."We will piece together what happened that week," Mitchell told thejury. "You're gonna know what happened to Jahi based on the evidence."Two days before he reported the child missing, Jones told his wife that Jahi had fallen off the bed and bumped his head, but it was "no big deal," the prosecutor said.Jones also complained that Jahi had wet the bed, according to Mitchell. Witnesses at the apartment complex where Jones lived said they saw the defendant carrying three large trash bags to a Dumpster just before the trash was to be picked up the day before the child disappeared, the prosecutor told the jury.One neighbor commented, "It didn't look like regular trash," Mitchell said. The prosecutor pointed to "glaring inconsistencies" in the defendant's statements to police about what happened.Mitchell said there was "no credible evidence" that Jahi was at the park that day. Despite a massive search, the child's body was never found.Jones was arrested in April 2016 in North Carolina and brought back to San Diego to face a murder charge.Deputy Public Defender Courtney Cutter told the jury that her client was a suspect in his stepson's disappearance almost immediately.Cutter said the defendant and Tameka Jones were used to just "getting by" and had very little when they moved to San Diego.The attorney said her client loved Jahi as if he were his own. "Tieray did not kill this child," Cutter told the jury."He was an imperfect father, yes, but not a reluctant one." At the end of the trial, there will be more questions than answers as to what happened to Jahi, Cutter said. Jones faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. 2570

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A cruise ship passenger and three crew members who arrived in San Diego on Monday have since tested positive for the novel coronavirus.County spokesperson José álvarez confirmed a passenger on the Celebrity Eclipse, which arrived in San Diego Monday, has tested positive for COVID-19. Tuesday afternoon, county health officials revealed that 3 crew members, who had been self-isolating, also tested positive. County health officials said they were notified before the ship came in that one passenger had a heart ailment and "possible" pneumonia. The passenger was taken to a hospital Monday and later tested positive for COVID-19.RELATED: San Diego issues health orders on cruise ships amid COVID-19Deborah Filgate and her husband were among the 2,500 passengers on board that cruise. "We've been told all the way through that we were absolutely fine, no one sick at all, so it's a bit strange," said Filgate. Filgate and the other passengers went through a health screening before they were allowed to leave the ship. "We were very relieved to leave the ship, but thinking about what that might have represented to the people you came in contat with, it's not such a great feeling now," said Filgate.A letter from Celebrity Cruises was sent to passengers reading, "because you were a passenger on this same voyage, it is possible you were exposed to someone who was sick with COVID-19."The letter goes on to direct passengers to complete a 14-day isolation. The passenger is not a San Diego County resident. The passenger is in the hospital in serious condition."There is no change in the plan of disembarking the remaining passengers today," álvarez said regarding the ship. "They will be screened prior to departure and only those who are asymptomatic and without fever are allowed to leave and proceed to transportation out of the county."A statement from the cruise line to 10News read:"We received clearance from port authorities and public health officials to disembark our guests and return them safely to their homes. No guests or crewmembers reported with symptoms throughout the sailing, and guests are going through exit health screenings when they leave the ship. We remain in continuous contact with public health authorities and appreciate their guidance to protect the well-being of our guests and crew."Monday, Dr. Eric McDonald, the county's medical director of epidemiology, said 17 San Diegans were on the Celebrity Eclipse. Those individuals will complete their quarantine locally.
