SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hundreds showed up for a prayer vigil Wednesday night, organized by the Broadway Heights Community Council. The Prayer Vigil for Love, Peace and Justice was outdoors on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. A dozen faith leaders participated, each taking a moment to speak to the crowd and then share prayer with the crowd. Organizers say they put this together in response to the racial injustice around the country, mentioning the death of George Floyd and the arrest of Amaurie Johnson at the trolley station in La Mesa. The vigil was peaceful and organizers say that was the goal. Families that attended the event and faith leaders say they are hopeful that coming together will lead to meaningful change and healing. 740

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In an effort to help San Diego's homeless population, the City of San Diego is proposing a third storage facility the homeless can use to store their belongings. The city organized a town hall in July to gather input for the facility that would be placed on 54th and Lea Street.According to the San Diego Housing Commission, the facilities provide a "safe place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness to keep their belongings as they look for work, attend classes, or meet with a service provider or doctor."One of the centers, located on the 200 block of 16th Street, provides bins for more than 400 homeless individuals. Although the centers provide a service to San Diego's homeless population, some residents have made their opposition clear. Before one of the facilities opened in Sherman Heights, residents voiced their concerns. Neighbors told 10News they worried the facility would increase illegal activity and pose safety concerns in the area. To address concerns, security was placed inside the building as well as patrols sent out into the neighborhood. The timeline below shows the recent history of homeless storage centers throughout the city: 1199

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In recent weeks colorful bikes have filled the streets of San Diego. Dockless bike ridesharing companies were ready to go once the City Attorney's Office said they could operate. The city says LimeBike, Ofo, Mobike and Bird Scooter all have the proper licenses to operate here.LimeBike says in just two weeks they've logged 30,000 rides. The San Diego Bike Coalition supports the companies and believes the accessibility and affordability will help the city in its climate action plan. However, some residents have major concerns with the bikes, reporting that they're being left in the middle of sidewalks and on people's property. They've also witnessed scooter riders not wearing a helmet and people riding where they're not supposed to.Zack Bartlett, the general manager for LimeBike in San Diego, says they have an operations team patrolling the city 24/7 to run safety checks and reposition bikes improperly parked. He says they've invested heavily in education, safety and parking campaigns to help everyone enjoy the bikes and scooters responsibly. One of the safety videos can be viewed here.San Diego Police say because the dockless bikes and scooters are so new they don't have a way to track citations issued to individuals riding them or parking them improperly.  1316
