As the number of coronavirus cases continues to climb around the world and disrupts the travel industry, Princess Cruises has announced cancellation of early 2021 trips.“Due to restrictions and limitations with border and port access determined by government and health authorities and the continued uncertainty of airline travel,” Princess Cruises canceled about 30 voyages on two ships.The Island Princess, which stopped at ports around the world, and Pacific Princess, that sailed around South America and Australia, will not set sail until at least April, according to a release from the company.The cancelled voyages include a 111-day around-the-world from Los Angeles.Princess Cruises, which is owned by Carnival, is offering refunds or credit for a future cruise.Carnival Cruises has also canceled some 2021 voyages, and likely won’t return to full capacity until 2022.The cruise company is facing legal action for their handling of passengers when the coronavirus pandemic started this spring. Two lawsuits allege Princess Cruises did not act fast enough to impose quarantines when cases were discovered.When the lawsuits were filed in June, Princess Cruises told USA Today “our response throughout this process has focused on the well-being of our guests and crew within the parameters dictated to us by the government agencies involved and the evolving medical understanding of this new illness.” 1414

At least five inmates at the Sumner County Jail in Gallatin, Tennessee suffered overdoses after ingesting heroin possibly cut with fentanyl.The drugs were somehow smuggled into the jail. The five inmates were hospitalized, according to reports on Monday.Also, nursing staff at the jail complained of exposure symptoms and needed treatment. Parts of the jail were being cleaned and decontaminated.Reports stated an inmate was brought into the jail Sunday for a violation of community corrections. Monday morning, she was placed in her cell, and around 6 a.m. other inmates began to show signs of respiratory distress.Authorities said it's believed those who were taken to the hospital voluntarily shared whatever substance was brought into the jail.Hospital staff told officials none of the inmates were at risk of death. At least 285 U.S. children have developed a serious inflammatory condition linked to the coronavirus and while most recovered, the potential for long-term or permanent damage is unknown, two new studies suggest.The papers, published online Monday in the New England Journal of Medicine, provide the fullest report yet on the condition.The condition is known as multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. It is considered uncommon and deaths are rare; six children died among the 285 in the new studies.Including cases in Europe, where it was first reported, about 1,000 children worldwide have been affected, a journal editorial said.The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s case definition includes current or recent COVID-19 infection or exposure to the virus; a fever of at least 100.4 for at least 24 hours; severe illness requiring hospitalization; inflammatory markers in blood tests, and evidence of problems affecting at least two organs that could include the heart, kidneys, lungs, skin or other nervous system.Digestive symptoms including nausea and diarrhea are common. Some children may have symptoms resembling Kawasaki disease, a rare condition in children that can cause swelling and heart problems.At least 35 states have had cases, and they seem to crop up a few weeks after local COVID-19 activity peaks, said Dr. Adrienne Randolph of Boston Children’s Hospital. She is a lead researcher for a multistate study that includes CDC scientists.
