SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local marine is recovering from COVID-19 while deployed overseas.Jennifer Dulaney says her husband, Kyle, was deployed in April and is serving at a base in Okinawa. He tested for COVID-19 earlier this month.“My husband called me on a Monday morning as I was getting ready for work and said he felt like he was getting symptoms,” Jennifer said.Kyle got worse and was eventually sent to the ICU. His condition began to worsen that he qualified for the Remdesivir. It was described as an experimental drug, and doctors needed Jennifer’s permission to administer it to Kyle.Jennifer is a nurse and knew that COVD-19 could be very severe.“I know where COVID can go, they can spiral downwards real fast,” she said, “so for me, the benefits outweighed the risk.”Jennifer said he began to show improvement on the fifth day. She was able to him Friday morning.“They were drawing his lab work because that’s one of the things with the experimental (treatment), they have to watch things very closely,” she described, “but he actually laughed on the phone, he was able to talk to me without coughing. It’s amazing.”She hopes her husband will be out of the ICU within the next two days.During the difficult time, Jennifer took a leave of absence from her job. She said it was difficult to continue working as a nurse while worrying about her husband’s health. So to help with finances, a friend started a GoFundMe for their family. The GoFundMe has received so much more than they expected, she’s going to donate what they don’t spend to a non-profit that helps military families.“It’s so amazing, so I want to take the amazing, so I wanted to pay it forward,” she said. 1688

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Navy SEAL was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to molesting his relative in California.Gregory Kyle Seerden pled guilty to seven counts of molestation following a preliminary hearing in which the victim testified. According to the court, the abuse happened while Seerden was a Navy SEAL stationed in San Diego. "We can start healing today by making him answer for his crimes every day for the rest of his pathetic existence," Alicia Reppert said, reading a prepared testimony.Reppert is Seerden's ex-wife. She said on the stand, that her daughter endured abuse from her father, starting from when she was five years old. The Deputy District Attorney said the girl mustered up the courage to report her father's crimes in 2015. At the pretrial hearing in May, the now 12-year-old testified in front of a judge. The testimony was so powerful, Seerden pleaded guilty to seven of the nine counts of molestation, without going to trial. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison. Seerden is already serving a 27-year federal sentence for manufacturing child pornography. In 2017, Seerden was accused of of raping a woman while serving in the Navy in Virginia. When authorities searched his cell phone, they found child pornography, including a video of him abusing another 5 year-old relative, while she slept. "In California, you can use that evidence to corroborate molestation in this case," Deputy DA Amy Colby said. Seerden was arrested on April 3, 2017, for the case involving child pornography. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A handful of San Diego County fire departments have sent crews across the state to help with the Woolsey and Camp Fires. But Cal Fire officials tell 10News they're making sure that enough resources are left behind to cover any emergencies that happen here."We have an obligation here to make sure we keep enough strategic reserve to stay safe in San Diego," says Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jon Heggie.Through a process called "Mutual Aid," Heggie says Cal Fire sent three strike teams, consisting of 15 engines, to help around the state. That leaves 32 engines in San Diego. Heggie says those engines are placed around the county ready to pounce on any fires that spring up."The conditions they've seen up there are very similar to what we're seeing right now," says Heggie. But, he added that all time off had been canceled for Cal Fire employees while San Diego is in a Red Flag Warning."Everyone from the Chief down to the firefighters, they're staying in a heightened state of readiness," he says. "We'll never exceed those thresholds to make sure that we have enough adequate resources available for any fire that starts here in San Diego."Cal Fire's ability to respond quickly was put to the test Monday, when a house fire erupted in Ramona. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new option for bike lanes along 30th Street in North Park looks like a compromise between cyclists and business owners.The new proposal, called Option A+, would build dedicated, protected bike lanes along a 2.4 mile stretch of 30th Street, stretching from Juniper to Adams Avenue. That's longer than initially planned.In return, business owners will get to keep some of their parking. That stretch has around 550 parking spots. The original plan removed all of them. The new plan leaves 100 in place, mostly in business areas rather than residential areas.RELATED: Hundreds of parking spaces in North Park could be removed for bike lanesThe plan first came up at a December meeting of the City Mobility Board.Even with the compromise, some business owners worry the loss of 450 spots will impact their customers."North Park is a destination city," says Kelsey Padigos, the owner of Subterranean Coffee.
