The Florida House on Wednesday passed legislation that would impose new restrictions on firearm sales and allow some teachers and staff to carry guns in school.The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act was spurred by the February 14 shooting in Parkland, Florida. The bill, which passed 67-50, now goes to Gov. Rick Scott. He has 15 days to sign it.Earlier in the day, Scott expressed reservations about the provision to arm school personnel. The cost of sending a letter might be going up next year.On Friday, the United States Postal Service issued a press release stating that they had filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) about its plan to increase prices.The new proposal would raise the price of first-class mail by 1.8% and 1.5% for other categories, the agency said.The additional ounce price for a single-piece letter would increase to 20 cents, the price for a metered mail 1-ounce would increase to 51 cents, and the cost of sending a postcard would increase to 36 cents.Items that will remain unchanged are the single-piece 1-ounce flat prices, which will stay , and the forever stamp will stay at 55 cents.The Postal Service Board of Directors believes the price increase will provide revenue for the agency and keep them competitive.The price increase will take effect on Jan. 24 after a review by the PRC. 907

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say four people have died and 11 others have been hospitalized after they ingested hand sanitizer.In the report, the CDC said the 15 adults, 13 of which were men, were being treated for methanol poisoning, which occurred in New Mexico and Arizona between May and June.The CDC said three people suffered vision problems."Alcohol-based hand sanitizer products should never be ingested," CDC officials said in the report. "In patients with compatible signs and symptoms or after having swallowed hand sanitizer, prompt evaluation for methanol poisoning is required. Health departments in all states should coordinate with poison centers to identify cases of methanol poisoning."As of July 8, four people were still hospitalized, the report stated."Among the four patients who died, three had seizures at the time of admission; initial signs and symptoms were not reported for the fourth patient," the report said.According to the report, the average age was 43, with some of the incidents happening amongst Native Americans. 1076

The driver of a rental truck drove down a busy bicycle path in New York near the World Trade Center, killing eight people and injuring about a dozen others in what officials said was an "act of terror."After crashing the truck into a school bus, the suspect exited the vehicle while displaying imitation firearms and was shot in the abdomen by a police officer, according to the NYPD.The suspect, a 29-year-old man, is in police custody and was taken to a hospital for treatment, officials said. 503
