SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Saturday morning, coffee enthusiasts will sample a rare coffee grown for the first time right here in San Diego.The geisha coffee bean, generally grown in Panama, is a rare coffee bean known for its unique flavor profile. The variety grown in Oceanside has tasting notes of jasmine tea, honey, key lime pie, and elderflower, according to Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, who are offering the coffee.?The bean's exclusivity is also reflected in its price. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Singer Jimmy Buffet's successful chain of properties is making its first appearance on the West Coast in the coming months. Paradise Point Resort & Spa on Vacation Isle Park in Mission Bay is rebranding into a Margaritaville Island Beach Resort, with an anticipated opening of 2020-21.The existing property will be renovated and converted for an estimated million. It will feature 462 casita-style single-story guest rooms, waterfront views with a mile of beachfront, Margaritaville food and beverage concepts, new recreational activities and family-friendly amenities.Margaritaville is a global lifestyle brand inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of singer, songwriter and best-selling author Jimmy Buffett, whose songs evoke a passion for tropical escape and relaxation.Davidson Hotels & Resorts will operate the property as Paradise Point Resort & Spa until the hotel is reflagged, and will continue to manage the property following the completion of the renovation and rebranding.Paradise Point's general manager, Michael Stephens tells 10News, "Some of the first things were investing in is restaurants." Following last years 22 million dollar guest room renovation, the new project will focus on updating the rest of the property and adding new restaurants. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several events and school systems in San Diego have had their immediate schedules altered due to the coronavirus.Several conferences set to take place in San Diego have canceled or rescheduled, while others don't have immediately plans to alter their plans.Schools systems are also preparing for the possibility of changing schedules and continuing the school year amid coronavirus worries.LATEST CORONAVIRUS UPDATESHere's a look at what events and schools have changed their schedules due to COVID-19 worries and what we're monitoring: (We'll update this list as soon as more information is available.)Events:The 34th National Institute on White Collar Crime has canceled its planned March 11-13 conference at Marriott Marquis San Diego, citing coronavirus fears. On its website, organizers with the American Bar Association (ABA) said the decision to cancel was made "as a result of the large number of speakers and attendees who were compelled to cancel their participation due to travel restrictions put in place by employers." The institute will not be rescheduled, according to ABA. The organization said refunds are being processed to attendees, but any travel reservations made will have to be handled individually.Leaders of the Experimental Biology conference set to take place April 4-7 canceled the massive gathering over COVID-19 as well. The conference expected more than 12,000 attendees at the San Diego Convention Center.The 2020 CIE Summit business technology summit at Marriott Marquis San Diego has been rescheduled from March 18-20 to Aug. 12-14 "out of an abundance of caution," organizers say.Organizers with the Future of Individualized Medicine 2020, scheduled for March 12-13 at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, also canceled their event "based on concern for the health of our registrants, speakers, exhibitors and staff."The American Association for Cancer Research's annual meeting set for April 24-29 has been canceled. A reschedule of the meeting is being planned for later this year.San Diego Opera's several performances of "Aging Magician" at the Balboa Theatre has been canceled after several performers opted not to travel due to the coronavirus. Organizers plan to reschedule the events for Fall 2020.San Diego Loyal soccer has postponed the team's home opener on March 14 until July 29 due to coronavirus concerns and in accordance with USD's decision to limit campus events on the same weekend, the team said.Schools:University of California San Diego will begin to deliver all lecture and discussion courses remotely starting in the spring quarter. All university-sponsored athletic events are scheduled to continue but will be "fan-less." The university also asked students and staff to postponed or cancel all events or meetings expected to have more than 100 people.San Diego State University will move all classes to virtual instruction following spring break, from April 6 through the end of the spring semester, with certain exceptions. Staff would continue to come to campus to maintain operations.Comic-Con International, scheduled for July 22-26, said it plans to continue with its planned convention in July at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego’s Skyride reopened Wednesday after a ‘”gust of significant wind” caused the ride to close in mid-February. According to SeaWorld, the park, along with the ride’s manufacturer and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health inspected various parts of the ride over the last several months, including the towers, gondolas, ride cables and various other equipment. SeaWorld says the ride’s communication cable was also replaced. I was just a kid when I first rode Skyride, and I’m happy that I can ride it now with my grandchildren.”The ride first opened in San Diego in 1967. 1229

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some men are sharing their story of an unlikely redemption after police spotted them spray-painting graffiti on a street in El Cajon.Gripped by the message of the recent protests, Dre, Dan, and Gee did something they've never done before. The three, all of them artists, ended up on Heart Drive with spray paint."Just wanted to put up something, so when people drive by, it says 'love.' It says 'peace,'" said Dan."We are about art. People need to see the message," said Dre.Around 2 a.m., El Cajon Police Sergeant Mike Murphy pulled up to the three, before two more officers arrived. The three friends prepared to be arrested. Sgt. Murphy surveyed what they painted: peace signs, the words 'BLM' and 'Justice For Floyd.'He talked to them about the impact of graffiti. The men apologized. There would be no arrest. The three friends offered to fix it and Sgt. Murphy said he would help."That's a good feeling. It's the same as the message we were out there painting that night," said Dan.That same day, the men turned up with paint and rollers and together with Sgt. Murphy, they covered the spray paint. The three men decided they would funnel their passions into an art installation with the theme of unity. Sgt. Murphy agreed to help them find a venue for it. Dre and Dan say their encounter with him shows them that police can be part of the solution."Not every cop is out to kill black people. There are good cops out there, and I think people need to start understanding and noticing," said Dre.After the art piece is complete, Sgt. Murphy plans to submit a request to El Cajon officials in hopes of displaying it on city property. 1664
