SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two robberies were reported within a couple of hours of each other early Sunday morning near San Diego State University, police said.Around 2 a.m. Sunday, a person told police five or six men had stolen cell phones from a group of people on Prosperity Lane near Faber Way, San Diego police Officer Sarah Foster said.A little more than two hours later, at about 4:15 a.m., someone flagged down an officer on Rockford Drive near Pontiac Street to report they had been robbed at gunpoint, Foster said.PHOTOS: ,000 reward offered in string of Wells Fargo Bank robberiesThere was no information on what was stolen. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two pregnant women in San Diego County have been hospitalized due to flu complications, the county's Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday. A 40-year-old woman spent 16 days in the intensive care unit and a 30-year-old woman spent nine days in the ICU. Both women were unvaccinated, in their third trimesters and contracted influenza A. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pregnant women have some of the highest risk of developing flu complications if they remain unvaccinated. “That is why they're one of the groups for which vaccination isextremely important," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "Changes in the immune system, heart and lungs during pregnancy make pregnant women (and women up to two weeks after delivery) more susceptible to severe illness from the flu, which could require hospitalization." Officials from the CDC and the Health and Human Services Agency suggest that pregnant women receive the flu vaccine at any point in their pregnancy. However, the nasal spray flu vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women. Flu cases in the county ticked up during the week of Dec. 9-15, according to the county's weekly influenza report. Confirmed flu cases totaled 290 compared to 199 the previous week. The county's overall total of confirmed flu cases is at 940, well behind the 1,641 cases at this time last flu season. Everyone 6 months or older is recommended to get the flu vaccine each year. In addition to pregnant women, health officials strongly advise the vaccination for people with a heightened risk of serious flu complications, like people older than 65 and people with chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes. County residents can get vaccinated at doctors' offices, retail pharmacies, community clinics and the county's public health centers. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego-based U.S. Navy SEALs have been charged in connection with the 2017 execution of a detainee in Iraq.SEAL officials told the Navy Times that Lt. Jacob "Jake" Portier faces an Article 32 hearing on suspicion of covering up a string of war crimes allegedly committed by Special Operations Chief Edward "Eddie" Gallagher.The Naval Criminal Investigative Service probe involves the death of a wounded Islamic State fighter near Mosul, Iraq in May 2017, the Navy Times reported.Prosecutors allege Gallagher stabbed and killed the wounded man, posed for a photograph next to the body and opted to complete his re-enlistment ceremony next to the corpse, bringing "discredit upon the armed forces."Gallagher is also accused of shooting two non-combatants in separate incidents near Mosul, the Navy Times reported.An MCAS Miramar spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.Gallagher was arrested on Sept. 11 and is being detained at the Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, under Rules for Court-Martial 305, the Navy Times reported.Portier, who is accused of dereliction of duty, was not present at the time of the alleged killing, the Navy Times reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A California Highway Patrol officer wrestled with a man who walked in lanes of SR-52 in University City Monday.The CHP received calls from concerned drivers about a man on the highway at Genesee Avenue and sent an officer to the scene about 1 p.m.When the officer arrived, the man refused to leave the road and wrestled with the officer who tried to arrest him.Two drivers stopped to help the officer subdue the man, the CHP said. Other CHP and San Diego Police officers arrived later to assist with the arrest.The man suffered a small scratch but the officer was not hurt.Officers did not release a motive for the man’s behavior or his identity. 673

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A big rig blew a tire and veered across all lanes of southbound Interstate 15 at Carmel Mountain Road Thursday afternoon, leading to a Sig Alert on the freeway. The flatbed truck lost its front left tire about 2:20 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported. The driver lost control and hit two cars before crashing into the center divider. One of the cars hit an SUV, and was knocked over the freeway rail into the HOV lanes.The CHP reported debris on the freeway from the crash, including fuel leaking from the truck. One injured person was taken to Palomar Medical Center, City of San Diego officials reported. Another driver had minor injuries.Check 10News traffic conditions The far left lane of I-15 and the right lane of the HOV section reopened at 5:45 p.m., according to the CHP.
