(KGTV) — One person is dead after their vehicle became airborne and crashed, sending metal and pieces of the vehicle across the roadway.California Highway Patrol troopers tried to stop the vehicle on eastbound Interstate 8 at about 2 a.m. Saturday before the driver sped off.Troopers pursued the vehicle, which began picking up speed as it left the highway, CHP said.At one point, witnesses told 10News the vehicle hit a dip on Main St. near Jamacha Rd. at a high speed and became airborne. The driver lost control of the car and crashed, colliding with a tree and wall along the road.The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not immediately identified.The crash sent pieces of the vehicle flying in all directions including the car's engine block, which was dislodged and found across the road.TRAFFIC: Live traffic conditions around San Diego"Seemed like just 30 minutes of just crashing and metal everywhere," one witness said. EL CAJON (CNS) - A man who rear-ended a pregnant woman's car in Ramona two years ago while driving drunk, killing the woman and her unborn child, was sentenced Monday to 34 years to life in state prison. Andrew Milonis, 46, was convicted last month of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run for the Mother's Day 2017 crash that killed 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham and her unborn daughter, who she and her husband had planned to name Ayanna. Deputy District Attorney Laura Evans read a letter from the victim's husband, who was driving ahead of his wife when he saw the crash in his rear-view mirror, pulled over and tried to pull her out of the wreckage. Her two young sons from a previous relationship were in the car with their stepfather, and saw the aftermath. ``I still hear them screaming in my dreams, saying, `Daddy, save Mommy,' and `Mommy, get up,''' he wrote. Milonis had been drinking throughout the day, downing at least seven drinks at a local bar before he got behind the wheel of his GMC Yukon, the prosecutor said. Evans said a bartender recommended that Milonis arrange a Lyft ride to get home, but he ignored the advice. Milonis struck a tree and multiple telephone poles before crashing into Foderingham's car, Evans said. After the crash, Milonis continued driving to a nearby hotel, where employees called a Lyft driver for him. When the Lyft driver arrived and asked Milonis where he wanted to go, the defendant told the driver something to the effect of, ``Anywhere I can get a drink,'' according to Evans. The prosecutor told jurors the impact of the crash left a partial imprint from Milonis' license plate on the back of Foderingham's car, and there was no evidence of mechanical issues on either vehicle that might have contributed to the crash. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The El Cajon man who is accused of beating his roommate to death with a frying pan says he's not guilty. Brad Payton showed no expression as he was arraigned on Thursday afternoon in front of an El Cajon judge.An attorney spoke for Payton who entered the “not guilty” plea during the video-streamed initial court appearance since the attack, which happened exactly one week ago. Deputy DA Carlos Campbell told 10News that the crime comes with a sentencing of 26 years to life in prison.The attack happened before sunrise at an independent living facility on Naranca Avenue in El Cajon. Police say the two men were heard arguing before 25 year-old Payton allegedly grabbed a frying pan and beat the other man to death. 10News spoke to the victim's mother on the day he was attacked, before she knew he died. She said he suffered from a developmental disability and didn’t like to follow the rules, which was how he ended up at the living facility. His name has still not been released by the Medical Examiner’s Office. The county lists the property where the attack happened as a home to those with physical or mental disabilities. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A man fatally stabbed inside an East County condominium has been identified as an active-duty service member.Anderson Lopes, 24, was found unresponsive at his El Cajon condo just after 10:30 p.m. on March 6, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Lopes's wife said her husband was injured in an assault inside the home in the 13000 block of Pinkard Way.Lopes was treated at the scene and brought to a nearby hospital, but died from his injuries. His wife, who said she was trying to break up the fight, was stabbed in the thigh and underwent surgery.RELATED: Suspect arrested in El Cajon stabbing deathSDSO said Lopes was an active-duty service member in the U.S. Navy.Deputies detained Dylan Poston, 26, at the scene. Poston has been charged with one count of murder and is being held without bail at San Diego County Jail.It's not clear what led to the reported altercation.The murder is still under investigation.
