EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a car slammed into an El Cajon power pole Tuesday afternoon, leaving some residents without power.The crash happened on Madison Avenue and 3rd Street near Madison Avenue Elementary School."It was just kind of like a loud boom," said Julia Jorgensen, who heard the crash.  "The car was smoking at the front for a little bit, so I was really scared that it was going to blow up."According to police in El Cajon, the crash caused extensive damage.  In photos from the scene, the power pole appears to be split in half. SDG&E turned off power approximately 120 residents in the area as a precaution.  Power was restored for most residents by 4:30 p.m.The crash also closed Madison Avenue between 3rd Street and Macon Street, creating traffic as parents picked up their children from one of several schools in the area.Police say the incident is being investigated as a DUI crash. A witness described the driver as stumbling out of the vehicle shortly after the crash."I ran up to him.  I said, 'Who was in the car, like who's in there?' and he was really really out of it.  His eyes were rolling in the back of his head," Jorgensen said. "He was kind of falling everywhere.  He was really really sweaty.At one point, she says he even laid down in the grass, curled up like a ball.Both the driver and passenger were responsive but taken to the hospital with serious injuries. SDGE expects to reopen the street by 10 p.m. 1540

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, reassured children over the weekend that he personally visited Santa Claus at the North Pole, and vaccinated him.Appearing on a CNN Town Hall that educated children on the coronavirus, several children submitted questions on whether Santa would be able to visit them amid the pandemic.“I have to say I took care of that for you because I was worried you all would be upset,” Fauci told the children. “I took a trip up there to the North Pole. I went there and I vaccinated Santa Claus myself. I measured his level of immunity. He is good to go. He can come down the chimney.”Fauci added, “You have nothing to worry about.”Fauci did not indicate which vaccine he injected Santa with. There are currently two coronavirus vaccines that have garnered an emergency use authorization from the FDA. A vaccine produced by Pfizer, which studies indicate has a 95% efficacy rate, began being administered in the US last week. Currently, the two vaccines are not recommended for children.Fauci explained that in order to protect children, it is important for a vaccine to demonstrate efficacy among children before administering it.“The reason why you are not hearing about vaccinating children right now is because we want to wait a month or two,” Fauci said. “We are looking at January, we are going to start some trials in children. We’ll start with children who are a bit older and work our way down so that hopefully within a few months, we’ll be able to tell children, when I know we’ll be able to say, that the vaccine is ‘safe and effective in you.’” 2122

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a man who reportedly robbed a US Bank in El Cajon Monday. According to the FBI, the incident happened just after 3 p.m. at the US Bank on the 2700 block of Navajo Road. The robber reportedly approached a teller and made a verbal demand for money. After receiving the cash, the man fled the scene on foot. The robber is described as a white or Hispanic man with olive skin and grey hair who is believed to be in his 30s or 40s. He’s also six feet, one inch tall with a thin build. The man was last seen wearing a grey and white “trucker style” hat, long sleeved grey sweatshirt and baggy blue jeans. Earlier this week, both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration investigate an outbreak of salmonella infections across multiple states, possibly linked to imported wood ear mushrooms.The agencies said consumers should be on notice when ordering food with mushrooms because the dry mushrooms, which were likely imported by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, California, could cause salmonella infections.The agencies say the dry mushrooms were shipped to restaurants in 31 states and Washington, D.C."Consumers can ask restaurants where mushrooms are from before ordering to avoid eating recalled mushrooms," the FDA said.The CDC says 41 reported cases of the salmonella infection in 10 states, and four people have been hospitalized.On its website, Wismettac Asian Foods said they voluntarily recall the 5-pound bags of dried fungus imported from China. 920

(KGTV) -- New video from a nearby business shows the moments before a driver plunged into a sinkhole in El Cajon.The images seeming to tell a different story than was released by El Cajon police earlier in the week.The incident happened late Monday night on Vernon Way and Johnson Avenue. A white car became almost completely submerged in a deep sinkhole after a water main break earlier in the evening. RELATED: Sinkhole forms at El Cajon intersection, swallows car At the time police said the driver, who wasn't injured, ended up there after going around a barricade.Ken Wingert's office has surveillance cameras pointed right at the street where it happened, so out of curiosity, he took a look and says the video paints a different story than the one he first heard. "I saw the video...no that's not true," Wingert told 10News. "The police officer actually went to her window, talked to her and the car pulled a u-turn and went into the sinkhole."After the car goes down, Wingert says the video gets even more interesting. The officers can be seen walking over, but it's how they did it that has him confused.  "Why were the police not reacting so fast once the car went into the pothole? All of a sudden when the car started sinking more everybody started running towards it," he said. "To me that was a little slow on that part."On Thursday 10News made multiple attempts to talk to El Cajon police about the video. We were told that there was no one available to comment. 1537
