The woman who gave President Donald Trump's motorcade the finger in late October is speaking out after she said she was fired for the incident that went viral.Juli Briskman, a former member of the marketing team at Akima LLC, was riding her bike as the presidential motorcade passed by, transporting Trump from his golf course back to the White House."My finger said what I was feeling," Briskman said. "I'm angry and I'm frustrated."She flipped off the motorcade twice, and after the moment went viral, she told her employer."I thought that it would probably get back to my company eventually," Briskman said in an interview with CNN's Jeanne Moos.She said she was told she had violated the company's social media policy, and said the company in turn fired her."I said, 'Well, that was me,'" Briskman told Moos, recalling her conversation with her former company's HR representative.Briskman said she had been at the company for about 6? months before the incident, and was working in the marketing department.She added that she's "really not" the bird-flipping type."Health care doesn't pass, but you try to dismantle it from the inside," Briskman said. The small town of Palisade, Colorado is home to just over 2,700 people. It is a town filled with family-run farms and fruit orchards, and stores that adorn their fronts with as many signs in English as Spanish.Every spring the town’s population increases by a few hundred people because of migrants who come to work on those farms and orchards on H-2A visas, which allow them legal residence in the United States without becoming a citizen.“I love my workers. They know my farmland better than I do,” said Bruce Talbott, who owns a farm in town and has been using H-2A workers for decades.Once the pandemic hit in March, however, things began to change. As farmers markets and restaurants that supply Talbott with most of his revenue began to close because of safety measures, the need for his 50 workers started to dwindle.Then, in April, an early-season freeze killed off 85 percent of his peach crop, forcing him to cut his staff from 50 migrant workers to eight.“Some guys ended up going back home against their will, others chose to go back home,” said Talbott. “[It was hard because] our guys really like working here.”Talbott says he was able to shift his workers to a farm in South Carolina looking for help so they did not lose their jobs, but others across the country were not as lucky as migrant workers who rely on their income in the United States to support their families were left without a job.“This year will be one the historians love and one we’ll be glad to end,” said Talbott.Many farms in Palisade and other parts of the country ended their contracts with the Department of Labor because of the reduced need which cut down on the number of migrants who could come to the United States for work.In other cases, migrant workers who had started work on farms had their hours reduced, forcing them to lean on local organizations for help.“I forecast a lot of belt tightening and struggling, honestly, to keep bills paid,” said Karalyn Dunn, executive director of Palisade’s Child and Migrant Services.Dunn’s office is small, but it is bustling with migrants in Palisade looking for meals and financial security. Since March, her organization has supplied migrant workers with free meals and hand sanitizer while also pitching in on rent, utilities, and food for groceries.“A gentleman just called and told me it looks like his work is over for this season and he’d like to come over and get a meal,” she said.The reduction in work does not only affect migrant workers but businesses in the towns, where they reside as they rely on their business to make a living as well.“Our local grocery stores made the comment that if we have a peach crop they have a profitable year. If we don’t have a peach crop, they break even,” said Talbott. 2762

The Royal Oak Police Department has completed our internal investigation into the August 13 incident involving an African American man and the Royal Oak police.On behalf of the police department, I would like to apologize to Mr. Myers for how he was treated. What should have been a very short encounter was extended when the officer involved insisted on getting Mr. Myers' identification. The officer had no legal right to demand the identification and should have simply advised Mr. Myers why we were there and allowed him to go on his way. The officer involved is a new, probationary officer and he made a mistake. This officer will be provided with remedial training to address this issue.Early in this encounter, Mr. Myers requested a supervisor make the scene. Although the first officer did not call for a supervisor, the second officer on scene did.The responding supervisor did not handle this situation in a manner I expect Royal Oak supervisors to conduct themselves. He did quickly advise Mr. Myers that he was free to go; however, he did not effectively look into the situation or allow those present the opportunity to express their concerns.This is not the practice of the Royal Oak Police Department and it is not acceptable. The supervisor has been disciplined and every Royal Oak police supervisor has received additional training in procedural justice.This incident stemmed from a 911 call in which the caller reported she was uncomfortable because a male subject was circling her vehicle, staring at her from across the street, and was possibly taking pictures of her and her son. In total, Mr. Myers was verbally detained for approximately 19 minutes. A supervisor was called to the scene, per Mr. Myers request, about 6 minutes into the encounter and the supervisor arrived approximately 11 minutes later (17 minutes into the encounter). Mr. Myers was advised he was free to go 2 minutes after that.This is an unfortunate incident where the ROPD did not live up to our own standards.Corrective action has been taken and we will continue to hold all members of the ROPD to the highest standards. 2124

They've resumed classes, and their lives, on a campus where 17 of fellow students and teachers were killed in a mass shooting just over a month ago.And now, they'll turn what's normally a private chronicle of high school life -- a yearbook -- into a public testament to pain and perseverance.For the first time, the high school's yearbook is being made available nationally for purchase. In it, the yearbook staff weave a powerful tale of Marjory Stoneman Douglas' strength and resolve, for the whole world to see."We're still here. We still have games going on. We're still making the yearbook. There's still going to be prom," yearbook adviser Sarah Lerner said in a blog post for Walsworth Yearbooks. "We're a very strong community and we're not letting this stop us."Lerner said at first she was hesitant to share the upcoming yearbook, The Aerie, with the public, because there are student pictures and personal stories in it. But she ultimately decided that opening up the yearbook to people outside the school would let them see how much pride the students have in their school."I hope they see how hard the kids have worked and how much love has gone into this book," Lerner said. The SAT college entrance exam given to thousands of high school students across the United States may have been leaked in Asia ahead of Saturday's test, the Los Angeles Times reported.High school junior Huzail Hassan of Rancho Cucamonga received a text from a friend who said the College Board, which administers the exam, reused a test from last fall, the LA Times reported.“I checked on Twitter and so many people had taken screenshots,” Hassan told the LA Times. “I looked it up and it was the same exam.
