A romance scam has claimed another victim, a woman hoping for some companionship, but whose Mr. Right turned out to be all wrong.Petronica Williams thought she found the man of her dreams on Instagram, a great looking, New York City-based fitness trainer."He inboxed me on Instagram," Williams said, "saying 'hey gorgeous, I want to get to know you.' "Her Romeo sent videos, showing him training some of the stars of the VH1 reality show "Love and Hip Hop." Williams couldn't believe he was interested in her, but he was.She says their messaging got more and more intense, and he wanted her to come to his fitness studio in New York. Unfortunately, first he had to go to Africa on a short assignment. That's when trouble developed.New friend needs money to get home"He said he was over there working as a fitness trainer on a contract," Williams said. "But he was stranded and needed a way to get home."He needed money fast -- specifically 0 for a plane ticket home from Africa. He promised to return the money to her as soon as he got back to the U.S.So a love-struck Williams wired it to him through MoneyGram, and figured he was on his way.But he soon messaged her again, saying the Republic of Benin, in West Africa, would not let him leave unless he paid his income taxes first."They won't let me go home because I owe ,500 in taxes," the trainer messaged her. Before Williams took the time to realize what she was doing, she said, "I sent him a total ,076." Only after he stopped texting her back did she start suspecting she had been duped, that her fitness trainer may have been conning her from West Africa all along. 1644

After two days spent basking in royal attention, President Donald Trump turned Wednesday to more solemn matters: commemorating 75 years since the Normandy landings. He traveled to the English south coast for a ceremony at Portsmouth Harbor, near where allied forces set off for the beaches in France in their bid to retake Europe during World War II.Earlier in the morning, Trump's mind was in a less reverent place. He tweeted barbs directed at former Vice President Joe Biden, the news media and the actress Bette Midler -- all before 8 a.m. local time in London -- where he was spending a second night in the US ambassador's residence. In Britain, an interview Trump had conducted a day earlier with ITV host Piers Morgan was airing on breakfast television.Asked about his own avoidance of war service -- Trump received a draft determent from Vietnam due to bone spurs in his foot -- the President criticized that American effort, even as he was preparing to commemorate an earlier one."Well, I was never a fan of that war I'll be honest with you. I thought it was a terrible war, I thought it was very far away," he said.Trump revealed he'd carried out a "great conversation" about climate change with Prince Charles, an ardent campaigner on the perils of global warming.Trump said he was "moved" by the Prince of Wales' passion on the matter. But asked whether he personally believes in climate change, Trump said "there is a change in weather and I think it changes both ways."It was an illustration of Trump's ability in the UK to both flatter his hosts and undermine their positions. His gracious remarks on Tuesday about outgoing British Prime Minister Theresa May seemed to put to rest any lingering animosity between the two, even as he met with one of her fiercest critics, Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage, hours later. On Wednesday, Trump joined the leaders of other countries who took part in the war, along with Queen Elizabeth II, to mark three-quarters of a century since D-Day. It's a precursor to the main anniversary events, which will take place at the American cemetery in Normandy on Thursday, the actual anniversary of the landings.Trump alluded to the shared history in a toast Monday evening at Buckingham Palace, where he was attending a white tie banquet hosted by the Queen. The US and the UK "defeated the Nazis and the Nazi regime, and liberated millions from tyranny," Trump said in his toast. The Queen, meanwhile, hailed the institutions that were born out of the bloodshed, saying "we are forever mindful of the original purpose of these structures."As an embarkation point for the landings, Portsmouth carries historic weight. Before the invasion, US troops were stationed in the city and afterward, some injured servicemen returned for treatment here. After the event, Trump will travel to western Ireland, where he is staying for the remainder of his time in Europe at the golf course he owns in Doonbeg. He'll also meet the country's prime minister Leo Varadkar inside the VIP lounge at Shannon Airport -- a compromise venue after the Irish government balked at meeting at Trump's property. 3135

Airbnb is taking more steps to crack down on parties and nuisance guests in the wake of a Halloween shooting at an Airbnb rental in a San Francisco suburb where five people were killed. The company said Thursday it’s banning “open invite” parties at all of its accommodations. Those are parties open to anyone and advertised on social media, for example.Airbnb says boutique hotels and professional event venues will be exempt from the new rule. The San Francisco-based company is also banning large parties at apartment buildings and condos.“This policy does not impact parties that are authorized by hosts and convened respectfully by guests,” the company said in a news release. “Instead, our goal with this new policy is to address the small number of guests who act irresponsibly and those rare hosts whose homes become persistent neighborhood nuisances.”Airbnb says it’s in the process of identifying listings globally that may be violating the party house ban, including accommodations in Los Angeles, Miami Beach, London and Montreal. The company says it’s asking hosts to update their listings to comply with the ’’open invite” ban.Airbnb says it’s in the process of identifying listings globally that may be violating the party house ban, including accommodations in Los Angeles, Miami Beach, London and Montreal. In early 2020, guests will get a warning for one instance of excessive noise, unauthorized guests, unauthorized parking, unauthorized smoking or excessive messiness reported by a host or a neighbor. Further violations will result in account suspension or removal.Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky announced last month that changes would be coming after 1824

All four crew members aboard a cargo ship that capsized off the coast of Georgia have been rescued, the Coast Guard said Monday.Cpt. John Reed of the US Coast Guard said the first three rescued crew members were hospitalized, but were doing well considering the circumstances. The condition of the fourth crew members is unknown. The Coast Guard had been working since early Sunday to rescue four South Korean crew members that were on the ship when it tipped onto its side in St. Simons Sound.Complicating efforts are the size of the 656-foot ship and the fact it has watertight doors, numerous compartments and no power, Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Luke Clayton said.A call for helpThe first dispatches from the ship came at around 2 a.m. Sunday, VanderWeit said.South Korea's Foreign Ministry said the ship began "listing heavily," about 80 degrees, to the port side before overturning. Help arrived about two hours after the first call came in, VanderWeit said.Twenty members of the crew were rescued around 4 and 5 a.m., VanderWeit said. They exited via various parts of the vessel, which posed a challenge in getting them off the ship. Some crew members were hoisted onto helicopters while others were lowered — in some cases by fire hoses — onto boats, VanderWeit said.Fires broke out on the ship, preventing rescuers from continuing their efforts to save the remaining four crew members, said Capt. John Reed, commander of the Coast Guard Sector Charleston."As smoke and flames began to appear our crews, along with the Glynn County heavy rescue team, assessed that the situation was too risky to further go inside the vessel to attempt to locate the four individuals who remain missing at this time," Reed said. The Coast Guard remained on the scene, trying to stabilize the ship, and they continued to search the waters surrounding the vessel, VanderWeit said. The ship, sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, was bound for Baltimore, where it was expected to arrive Monday, according to 2023
