SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University students were outraged with the football home opener tailgate at SDCCU Stadium Saturday.This comes after an email was sent last October by the university declaring new rules for tailgates. It reads "students and recognized student organizations with more than 25 people in attendance are required to register for tailgating.""People are bummed but I haven’t heard that many people upset about it," SDSU Freshman Caitlin said.The new form requires organizations to acknowledge kegs, glassware, and underage drinking is prohibited. They also check a box acknowledging failure to follow any of the guidelines could result in citation or arrest as well as loss of tailgating privileges and/or game tickets."I heard it was a little too crazy so they had to dial it back and now they’re making people register," Caitlin said."Last year there were thousands out here, this year there’s hundreds maybe," SDSU Senior Brady McIntyre said in frustration.Multiple students came up to 10News angry with the restrictions and how they stifle greek life.10News spoke with a representative with Student Life at SDSU who said the registration process was to bring more organization and give groups a safer place to hang out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Six San Diego VA employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.The employees are with San Diego VA Healthcare System Counseling Center and are now in home isolation in accordance with CDC guidelines. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Serious concerns being raised about a COVID-19 outbreak at a federal detention center in downtown San Diego this week after dozens of detainees and employees tested positive.According to the Federal Defenders of San Diego there are 86 detainees currently COVID-19 positive at the Western Region Detention Facility. The Federal Defenders say those numbers came from the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) later Monday afternoon.Earlier Monday a spokesperson for the Marshals told ABC 10News, “As of Nov. 2, we have received reports of 74 USMS prisoners being held at the Western Region Detention Facility having tested positive for COVID-19 at any point during the pandemic. Of these, 22 have since recovered. The USMS prisoner population at the facility is 520.”The spokesperson did say data on prisoner health comes to USMS through established reporting mechanisms that may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction; the data is not real-time and may not reflect the most current information.It’s not just inmates testing positive.According to the Geo Group, the company that runs the facility, 64 GEO employees at the Western Region Detention Facility have tested positive for COVID-19.A spokesperson for GEO said 54 employees who previously tested positive have fully recovered and returned to work.Nine of the employees who tested positive are currently at home on self-quarantine, and one employee is receiving treatment at a local hospital.In a statement a spokesperson wrote in part, “While the COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges, from the very beginning we have taken extensive measures to ensure the health and safety of those in our care and our employees, who are on the front lines making daily sacrifices at the facility.”In October, Team 10 reported on claims that some people who are arrested, accused of federal crimes, and taken to the GEO facility are not getting to court within the required timeframe.At the time, Attorney Ryan Stitt said outbreaks at detention facilities endanger the broader community."The guards that are present, the healthcare professionals that go to the jail and then our hospitals generally that need to treat the inmates once they become ill are all impacted by the rising COVID-19 numbers in custody," Stitt said. 2300
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Squatters turned a remodeled home in the College Area into a drug den, days after it was listed on as a vacation rental.Two weeks ago, John, who asked us not to use his full name, listed his four-bedroom home on the site VRBO, complete with new mattresses, comforters, and sheets. This past Sunday, a television installer entered the home to put up three TVs."He heard two people run out of the hallway out the back of the house," said John.RELATED: Residents concerned over rash of vandalism in Chula VistaPhotos taken by the installer show part of the scene they left behind: trashed bedrooms and beds littered with electric scooter parts. Also on the beds were crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia. Burn marks adorned three of the beds. John and his girlfriend had spent more than a week making the place perfect. "Just sad. She was crying out the break-in. Upsetting considering how hard we worked and how much money we spent," said John.John isn't sure how the intruders got past the locked doors. But once inside, it's clear they made themselves comfortable, using John's tools and toiletries, and eating food meant for future guests.
