British officials have authorized a COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, greenlighting the world’s first shot against the virus that’s backed by rigorous science and taking a major step toward eventually ending the pandemic. The go-ahead Wednesday for the vaccine developed by American drugmaker Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech comes as the virus surges again in the United States and Europe, putting pressure on hospitals and morgues in some places and forcing new rounds of restrictions that have devastated economies. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency recommended the vaccine could be used after it reviewed the results of clinical trials that showed the vaccine was 95% effective overall — and that it also offered significant protection for older people.“Help is on its way,″ British Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the BBC. “We now have a vaccine. We’re the first country in the world to have one formally clinically authorized but, between now and then, we’ve got to hold on, we’ve got to hold our resolve.”Hancock later added that the country expects to receive the first shipment of 800,000 doses “within days″ and will begin distributing shots soon afterward.According to The Associated Press, England will first distribute the vaccine to people over the age of 80, people in long-term care facilities and health care workers. BALTIMORE, Md. – Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been admitted to a hospital for treatment of a possible infection.According to a Supreme Court statement obtained by NBC and CNN, Ginsburg was admitted to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore early Tuesday morning.The 87-year-old was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. Monday night after experiencing a fever and chills, says spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg.At Johns Hopkins, the court says Ginsburg underwent an endoscopic procedure to clean out a bile duct stent that was placed last August.The justice is resting comfortably and will stay in the hospital for a few days to receive intravenous antibiotic treatments, according to the court.At a press conference at the White House on Tuesday, President Donald Trump said that he wishes Ginsburg "all the best." 851

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic University's commencement ceremony scheduled for 5pm today has been canceled and the Student Union is being evacuated after the school received what law enforcement considers a credible threat.An FAU source tells WPTV that right as the ceremony was about to start, a note was found in a women's bathroom stuck to the mirror that contained a threat in reference to the graduation ceremony.Sean Brammer, Chief of FAU Police, would not specify what type of threat was issued, saying only that it was specific to the commencement.The school is considering different options on rescheduling the commencement ceremony, but have not announced their intentions yet.FAU Assistant Vice President Joshua D. Blustering winds blew the roof of a Kansas school clean off on Tuesday while students were in the building.Security footage from the school shows the roof of Haviland Grade School peel off the top of the cafeteria as winds raced across the Kansas plains.The Wichita Eagle reports that 70 children in grades kindergarten through eight were in the building at the time of the accident.
