George was taken to the ER, tested positive for COVID-19 and placed on a ventilator one day later.Several days later, his wife of 49 years, Alma came down with her own symptoms. By the end of the month, both of Cedillos' parents were on a ventilator. On December 3, George Torres, a grandfather of nine and a great-grandfather, passed away."Oddly enough, I felt panic. Didn't know what to do. All I could do was just cry," said a tearful Cedillos.Cedillos says her father was always joking and laughing, and made everyone feel comfortable."The friendliest man. The greatest man to talk to about anything ... He was silly almost all the time ... He loved, loved his grandchildren," said Cedillos. He worked as a part-time handyman and Lyft driver seven days a week. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- In cities all over the country, drag queens are reading to kids and soon they'll be holding story time at the Otay Ranch library in Chula Vista. "I thought it was like one of the best things ever I wish I had a drag queen story time when I was younger," said "Strawberry Corncakes", a local artist who isn't taking part in the upcoming event, but understands very well why performers like her are striking a chord with families and kids across the country. "We're characters, we're cartoon characters brought to life. Who walks around with green eyes and green lips?" Along with the popularity though has come controversy. Pastor Amado Huizar is a father of four and says he's heard the events aren't just about reading books. "Teaching more about drag queens and what that's about which tends to lead to adult entertainment and that's where I think it's inappropriate as a dad as a husband."But the performers themselves say that's just not true. "There's no hidden agenda, we're not teaching them how to be drag queens we're not teaching them how to do anything except love themselves and read," said Corncakes. Huizar is trying to get the city leaders to talk to him and others and postpone the event in the meantime. And while opponents admit the event is optional, they have an issue with it being held at a public library. "I don't have to go but that doesn't mean I have to keep away from it either," said Huizar. The city of Chula Vista issued a statement that reads in part:"The Chula Vista Public Library welcomes everyone, and our extensive programming includes and reflects the diverse communities we serve. Hosting drag queens to read and relate with children sends a message of acceptance and tolerance."The drag queen story time is set for September 10 at 4 p.m. at the Otay Branch location. 1845

CHICAGO, Ill. — The pandemic is forcing many Americans to ditch in-store shopping for online this holiday season and experts say cyber criminals will be looking to take advantage.More than 50% of consumers say they will shop online this holiday season due to the pandemic. That spending is projected to account for more than 0 billion.“There is probably going to be more fraudulent use of online and online deliveries than we have seen before,” said Neil Daswani, a cyber security expert at Stanford University and the author of "Big Breaches: Cybersecurity Lessons for Everyone."He says COVID-19 related phishing scams spiked as soon as the pandemic hit. And with malware attacks, unencrypted data and third-party breaches, there will likely be more this holiday shopping season.“Cyber criminals are very well aware of the current situation and they are going to do everything they can to take advantage of it,” he said.According to the FBI, cyber crime has increased by 400% this year. But there are things consumers can do to protect themselves.Consider identity protection services. These companies can monitor many data sources, including credit files, social media and the dark web.Enable two-factor authentication for every online account you have that offers it, and call the three major credit services to freeze your credit.“I think that your credit should be regularly frozen except when you go about getting a new home mortgage or getting a car loan,” said Daswani. “You can always unfreeze it just before you do any of those activities.”Another vulnerability that Daswani says is important to pay attention to is your home router.“If you bought your home router and you just hooked it up and you didn't say change the password on it, then attackers can take advantage of those commonly used default passwords and hack into your home router,” he said. “And once they've done that, they can control anything and everything.”With increased remote working, learning and online shopping experts say a cyber pandemic could be the next catastrophic global event. They say understanding your cyber risks and taking measures now could protect you in the long run. 2178
