The vice premier told the meeting that the two sides should focus on cooperative projects in the areas of energy, high-speed rail, telecommunications, mining, housing and infrastructure development. Meanwhile, he said, the two sides should expand financial cooperation so as to benefit the people of the two countries.
"Today the China-U.S. relations have reached a new historical starting point. New realities call for new ways for countries to interact with each other and build new models of relationship," he said, adding that "our leaders, President Xi Jinping and President Barack Obama, set the goal for China and the United States to work together to build a new model of major country relationship."
When meeting with Prime Minister Chung Hong-won, Xi called for the two countries to enhance cooperation in service industry, new material and new energy resources, increase mutual investment and consolidate coordination in macro-economic policies to jointly counter international financial risks and promote reform on global economic governance.
In sharp contrast to the decades-old security scheme based on Cold War mentality, the new concept addresses Asia's unique challenges shaped by its historical grievances, current tensions and potential risks, said Qu Xing, head of the China Institute of International Studies.
To ease financing costs, the meeting outlined ten specific measures that put the focus on optimizing credit structure in the backdrop of a prudent monetary policy and reasonable credit growth.
