DENVER -- The administration of a Denver charter school has been suspended after disturbing video of a playground fight went public. Now, Denver police are investigating the teacher who appears to encourage the girls to throw punches.The April 20 video shows a group of girls at Wyatt Academy in an argument that escalated quickly. The restorative justice officer in the video appears to be smiling and laughing and can be heard at one point in the video saying, "Is anyone, like, going to hit anyone or is this just going to be a…"To which, a child yelled, "people are going to start hitting," before the violence escalated.Community activists said the real story isn't the fight, but the fact that three little girls received Denver Police citations for public fighting, while the school took no action against the teacher for a month — until the video went public."This whole time this is escalating, he never calls for anybody," said H Soul Ashemu, with Our Voice Our Schools, which released the video to try to initiate action from the school or the Denver Public School District.Denver Public School released a statement Friday afternoon saying it is investigating and that they are "deeply troubled by the video." 1248

DEL MAR, San Diego (KGTV)— Dozens of people gathered in front of the Del Mar Fairgrounds Saturday to protest a popular gun show.The weekend after yet another mass school shooting in Santa Fe Texas, the Del Mar Fairgrounds is hosting the Crossroads of the West Gun show. The show has been in Del Mar for many years.While show-goers drove into the parking lot, protestors yelled into the megaphone, “Stop the bloodshed. Close the Gunshow!”Del Mar Mayor, Dwight Worden joined protestors. “Why are we doing this when the community doesn’t want it?“ he asked. Worden has been credited for updating local zoning ordinances, which now ban gun shops, gun shows, or firing weapons in the city of Del Mar.But despite the name, the Del Mar Fairgrounds is owned by the state, so city zoning rules do not apply.It is governed by a Fair Board, which chooses what events they host a year in advance.“Were doing is this kind of demonstration of community concern and we’re working with the Fair Board and state legislature to see if we can change the rules and if not eliminate the gunshots, at least cut back the number,” Mayor Worden said. 10News was filming the protest, when an unrelated cyclist found an in-tact bullet being run over by cars on Via De La Valle.“It’s not a war zone. You don’t need to have ammunition out here on the street,” the cyclist said. Protestors said this is exactly why guns do not need to be in their neighborhood.Across the street, we met gun rights advocates advertising for the show.“It’s like a hobby shop for gun owners,” Nicholas Mielke said. It’s a passion of ours.” Mielke said he does not agree with his passion being taken away from him.“People who do serious crimes with other object, I don’t see us banning them either,” Mielke said. “I am a proponent of our constitutional rights. The first amendment is something that I totally respect them for that. At the same time, I don’t have to agree with them either.”The city does get sales tax from items sold at the gun show. Democrats are also on pace to capture control of the Virginia General Assembly, and several liberals, including New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio won their mayoral elections.Virginia's gubernatorial contest was the first major test of Democrats' ability to rebound after Trump's victory. (AP) — The wife of a man who was struck and killed by a Metrolink train in Southern California says investigators told her he pushed her out of the way.The Orange County Register reports Saturday that Jacqueline Gibson, of Lake Elsinore, said she was vacationing with her 71-year-old husband Ernest Gibson Monday when they crossed the tracks to return to their Dana Point campground.She says he suddenly told her to run. She found herself on the other side moments later as the train came through.Once it passed, she found her husband's body.She says investigators told her video from the train showed her husband pushing her out of the way.Metrolink officials say the area was restricted. DENVER — A Denver dad who witnessed a serious crash involving a pedestrian on Leetsdale Drive Thursday night says he wants to know why two paramedics, in a South Adams County - Northglenn ambulance, ignored his requests to help a young boy injured in that crash."I was heading to Cherry Creek reservoir with my dog," said the witness, who asked to remain anonymous. "The two little boys, one must not have been much over the age of 8, made their way across Leetsdale, several yards west of the Quebec intersection."He said the boys were crossing from north to south and had made it to the island in the middle of the street, and then began walking in front of cars that were stopped at the light.They were almost on the other side, when an eastbound car began approaching in the right turn lane. The boys darted in front of the car. The younger one took the brunt of the impact."He flew 20 yards and lost both of his shoes," the witness said. "I couldn't believe it."The witness added that what happened next was even more unbelievable.He spotted an ambulance waiting at the stoplight around the corner."By the Grace of God, there was a paramedic sitting...in traffic," he told Denver7. The witness said he approached the ambulance and knocked on the window."I told them, 'he's on the road, you've got to go help him,'" he said.But there was no response."I remember thinking they weren't understanding me. There's no reaction. I said, 'you have to go help him,'" he said.The witness, who has a 1-year old son, said he was talking to his wife on the phone and she told him to record the ambulance, so he did.He shared cell phone video of the ambulance, which was in the far-right southbound lane inching its way up to the intersection.After a brief toot of the siren, the ambulance entered the intersection and proceeded southbound without stopping, while the injured boy lay in the street a few yards away."It's sad," the witness said. "It's something that shouldn't happen in the United States."He said he wants to see some accountability.Ambulance Service ReactionKMGH reached out to South Adams County Paramedics-Northglenn Ambulance, a nonprofit service based in Northglenn.Initially, a director said she'd look into the claims, and then called back and said it was under investigation, so she couldn't comment.She cautioned that there "are two sides to every story."When asked about the nonprofit's protocol when paramedics are made aware of an accident outside their normal "coverage" area, the director said she couldn't answer that question while the incident is under investigation.KMGH checked with other paramedic services in metro Denver.A couple of them said they have no formal policy, but would stop and render aid, until local authorities arrived.One spokeswoman said without being there, it's hard to know whether there was a patient in the back of that ambulance, or whether it was on its way to pick one up."If there was a patient inside, the paramedics may not have been able to divert attention from the patient in the ambulance," she said.Serious ConditionDenver Police are still investigating the accident which happened around 6 p.m.They say the young victim remains in serious condition, but is stable. 3330
