BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- China and Japan pledged on Saturday to enhance dialogue and exchanges on climate change, energy conservation and environmental protection.The two countries, meeting in Beijing, agreed to make a combined effort to implement the Joint Statement on Climate Change between China and Japan, said Zhang Ping, chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), during the third China-Japan high-level economic dialogue.The two sides will conduct pragmatic cooperation in the areas of clean development mechanisms, energy-savings, energy efficiency improvement, new energy, renewable energy, clean coal technology, methane recovery and utilization, carbon capture and storage, adaptation to climate change and technology development and transfer, he said. BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie returned to Beijing Wednesday afternoon after a four-day visit to Vietnam.During his stay in Hanoi, Liang attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus, where he elaborated on China's defense policy and proposals on regional security cooperation.On the sidelines of the meeting, Liang met with defense chiefs from several countries.During the visit to Vietnam, Liang met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung,respectively.Liang also held talks with Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh.Liang's entourage also came back to Beijing.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese and U.S. diplomats have agreed to work together to advance the stalled six-party talks on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.Wu Dawei, China's special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs, held separate meetings during a visit here between Aug. 31 and Sept. 3 with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, special envoy for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Stephen Bosworth, Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and the White House chief adviser on Asia Jeff Bader.Both sides agreed to play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.China and the U.S. also believed the six-party talks was an effective tool to maintain peace and stability within the peninsula, as well as to denuclearize the region.The two countries want to work with other related parties to create conditions to push the talks forward. In addition to China, the U.S., DPRK and South Korea, other parties to the talks include Japan and Russia.
BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) in China in September rose 6.14 percent year on year, compared with a growth rate of just 1.38 percent in August.China received 8.384 billion U.S. dollars in FDI last month, compared with 7.602 billion U.S. dollars in August, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Friday.The September figure brought the total amount for the first nine months to 74.34 billion U.S. dollars, MOC spokesman Yao Jian said.
