Comedian Jimmy Fallon announced on Sunday that tapings for "The Tonight Show" for the coming week have been canceled due to his mother's death. Fallon had previously canceled Friday's taping at the last minute due to a family matter. On Saturday, Fallon's mother Gloria Fallon died at the age of 68. “Jimmy Fallon’s mother, Gloria, died peacefully on Saturday," a spokesperson for Fallon told NBC News in a statement. "Jimmy was at his mother’s bedside, along with her loved ones, when she passed away at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC. Comet NEOWISE may be on its way out, but that doesn't mean that the night sky's light show is set to end.According to the American Meteor Society, two meteor showers are set to peak in the coming days, which could result in several fireballs that light up the sky.One of those showers is the Southern Delta-Aquariids, which, according to NASA, are typically visible between July 12 and Aug. 23. But the agency reports that the system will peak in activity early Monday morning.At its viewing peak — in the southern hemisphere on a clear dark night — the Southern Delta-Aquariids can produce up to 25 meteors an hour, NASA says. Unfortunately, Americans won't be able to see that many fireballs, but experts still say some may still be visible — especially for those with minimal light pollution and clear skies.NASA says the Southern Delta-Aquariids will be most visible between moonset and first dawn on early Monday morning.The American Meteor Society also reports that the Alpha Capricornids will also peak early next week. While the AMS notes that the shower isn't particularly strong (about five meteors an hour), the meteors it does produce are particularly bright and visible.The AMS says the Alpha Capricornids will peak Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.According to the Associated Press, Comet NEOWISE will be visible in the night sky through mid-August before it heads back out toward the outer solar system. 1430

CLEVELAND — Have you ever heard of an emotional support animal being a squirrel?A passenger boarding a Frontier Airlines flight in Orlando headed to Cleveland got on the plane with one Tuesday night.A Frontier Airlines official said the passenger did note in their reservation that they were bringing an emotional support animal but did not indicate that it was a squirrel.Frontier Airlines does not allow rodents on flights.When they told the passenger of the policy and asked her to deplane, she refused and Orlando police were called. Many passengers WEWS spoke to didn't seem annoyed or angry but rather amused."The joke of the plane was hashtag squirrel so you’ll probably see it all over social media," said passenger Amber Calhoun.She was eventually escorted off the plane, allowing the plane to depart. A spokesperson for Frontier Airlines said the woman's ticket did indicate she had an emotional support animal but never specified the type of animal.The whole fiasco delayed the flight for almost two hours.  1046

CLINTON, Mo. — A Clinton police officer died and two other officers were hurt in a shooting at a home in the small Missouri town late Tuesday evening.Ofc. Christopher Ryan Morton died in the shooting, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The 30-year-old had been with the department, then returned to the force after a shooting?last year killed Clinton police officer?Gary Michael.In a news conference early Wednesday morning, Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Lowe said officers responded to a 911 call at 9:20 p.m. local time in which a woman was screaming in the background. When police arrived at the home, Sgt. Lowe said a man fired at the responding officers from inside the residence.The officers then returned fire and went inside the home. When they went inside, the suspect shot and killed one officer and hurt two others.The officers got out of the home and crews took them to the hospital.The suspect then barricaded himself inside.Around 12:10 am, the Highway Patrol SWAT team went into the home and found the suspect dead. It is not yet known if the suspect died as a result of the gun battle with police or if it was self-inflicted.The injured officers were receiving treatment at hospitals in the Kansas City area, and according to Sgt. Lowe, their injuries are not life-threatening."The Clinton Police Department is a well respected police department," said Sgt. Lowe. "They will forge on, but they will need help along the way. We are all saddened by this tragic event. It's one of those things that we realize can happen, but when it does happen, it definitely hits home."Cassie Toliver, who lives near where the shooting took place, said police vehicles, sirens and lights quickly filled the streets and law enforcement barricaded the area from both sides. In a phone interview with Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night, Toliver said she could hear gun shots around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday."We can still hear shots being fired," said Toliver. "We don’t whether that’s the shooter or the cops because it’s so dark outside.”The two women who called 911 were not injured, Sgt. Lowe said. "We will be speaking with them right away."Sgt. Lowe said Morton had been with the department for a while."It's hard to put into words what you go through when you have an officer killed in the line of duty," said Sgt. Lowe.Tuesday night's shooting happened exactly seven months after Clinton police officer Gary Michael was shot and killed in the line of duty. "It's just another tragic event for this community and this police department," Sgt. Lowe said. "They've endured a lot and they are going to endure more. Everyone's thoughts and prayers would be appreciated."Sgt.
