TAIPEI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of locals crowded the 10th Taipei Cross-Strait Travel Fair on Monday after leaders from both sides of the Taiwan Strait pledged to promote peace and prosperity at a historic meeting in Singapore Saturday.
"We also stand to gain from China's stellar experience in bringing more than 600 million people out of poverty over three decades and the experience with its urban social safety nets program--the Dibao," he said.
China and Singapore should also deepen interactions in such fields as scientific and technological innovation, green development and modern agriculture, boost cooperation in social governance and law enforcement, jointly fight transnational crimes and strengthen exchanges between the two countries' militaries, Xi said.
During Xi's visit, the two sides announced the readiness to launch negotiations on upgrade of their seven-year-old free trade agreement (FTA) and the third government-to-government (G-to-G) project in Chongqing city in southwest China, following the first in Suzhou in east China and the second in Tianjin in north China.
China is Africa's biggest trading partner and has sponsored major projects in the continent.
