The Franklin Park Zoo announced its newest member of their family: a baby boy gorilla.On Tuesday, the zoo said the baby, who is the first male baby gorilla born at the zoo, was delivered via Cesarean section by veterinarians and physicians.The Zoo New England, which operates Franklin Park Zoo, said in a press release that Kiki needed the procedure after noticing that western lowland gorilla mom Kiki was experiencing vaginal bleeding days before her due date."The veterinary team at Zoo New England became concerned that she may have placenta previa, a condition where the placenta lies over the entrance to the cervix, blocking the path for delivery of the baby," zoo officials said in the release.After conducting an ultrasound on Kiki, which confirmed she had placenta previa, the zoo's veterinary team and Brigham and Women's Hospital and Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University specialists performed a C-section.And after a quick and smooth surgery, Kiki gave birth to a 6-pound baby boy. 1023

The freewheeling entrepreneur who built Tower Records into a global business and pioneered a new way to sell music has died at 92.Russ Solomon, who started selling records at his father's pharmacy in the 1950s, passed away on Sunday at his home near Sacramento, California.The founder of Tower Records died while watching the Academy Awards, his son Michael Solomon told the Sacramento Bee."He was giving his opinion of what someone was wearing that he thought was ugly, then asked [his wife] Patti to refill his whiskey," Michael Solomon told the newspaper.Solomon had passed away by the time his wife returned.The first Tower Records opened in Sacramento in 1960, and by 1968 the company had expanded to San Francisco. Its iconic yellow and red signs would later be seen as far away as London and Tokyo.Fans flocked to the stores, attracted by a relaxed atmosphere where it was easy to bond with other music aficionados. Solomon did not have a dress code for employees, who mixed easily with customers."If you came into town, you went into Tower Records," Bruce Springsteen said in a documentary about the company called "All Things Must Pass."Solomon told Billboard Magazine in 2015 that his favorite regular was Elton John."He probably was the best customer we ever had," Solomon said of the pop star. "He was in one of our stores every week, literally, wherever he was -- in L.A., in Atlanta when he lived in Atlanta, and in New York."The chain thrived on massive demand for physical music -- first records and then CDs. The brother of the accused Parkland shooter has been involuntarily committed to a mental facility, sources tell Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida.Nikolas Cruz’s brother was involuntarily committed to a mental institution, under Florida's Baker Act.The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office detained Cruz Friday afternoon, according to sources. The Broward Sheriff’s Office placed the Baker Act on Cruz. Under Florida's Baker Act, an adult can be held for an involuntary exam for up to 72 hours under the law. The Daily Mail released leaked footage of the fatal Memorial Day arrest of George Floyd, who died while in the custody of Minneapolis Police.The Daily Mail did not indicate how it received the leaked body worn camera videos of the arrest. Prosecutors told CNN they are working to find the source of the leak. Several media outlets have sued prosecutors in order to gain access to the body-worn camera footage from the officers."The prosecution team is not the source of the leak. We will continue to take the strictest precautions to ensure a fair trial," Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said.The Daily Mail said the footage was taken from the body cameras of Thomas Lane and Alex Kueng. Lane and Kueng along with Derek Chauvin and Tou Thao were fired as officers and criminally charged for Floyd’s death. Chauvin is facing the most serious charges, which include second-degree murder. The other three former officers are being charged with aiding and abetting a second degree murder. Chauvin was the officer that held a knee to Floyd’s neck for several minutes, leading to his death.The footage shows officers pointing weapons at Floyd in order to get him to exit his vehicle and put up his hands. The video then shows Floyd pleading with officers not to shoot him.“I'm not going to shoot you,” Lane says.The footage showed Floyd in an apparent struggle with officers as officers repeatedly asked Floyd to sit.As Chauvin laid on Floyd’s neck, Floyd could be heard telling officers, “Tell my kids I love them.
