BRUSSELS, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday called on the European Union (EU) to recognize China's market economy status and remove its arms embargo against it.Speaking at a China-EU summit here, Wen said the summit mechanism, the highest-level platform for bilateral political talks, should push for an end to the two outstanding difficulties.The summit should enhance its role as provider of strategic guidance, and clear the way for further advancement of China-EU ties, he told the summit, co-chaired by him, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attends the 13th China-EU Summit in Brussels, capital of Belgium, Oct. 6, 2010.China would work with the EU to achieve balanced and sustainable development of bilateral trade, improve investment environment and enhance cooperation in financial and fiscal policy-making processes, Wen added.Meanwhile, the two sides should make concerted efforts to further expand hi-tech cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, push for the reform of the international financial system and maintain coordination on climate change, energy security and hot regional affairs, the Chinese premier said.All responsible countries in the world should refrain from launching trade or currency wars, Wen said, expressing the hope that the European side would take an objective and fair stance on China's currency exchange rate.Wen said China has expressed its support for and confidence in the 27-member European bloc, and believes that a strong and stable EU is conducive to the world as well as to China.

BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- China will unswervingly promote the policy of reform and opening up, while creating sound environment for foreign companies operating in China, Vice Premier Wang Qishan told senior U.S. officials Monday.Wang exchanged views on China-U.S. ties and economic and trade cooperation with Lawrence Summers, head of U.S. President Barack Obama's National Economic Council, and Deputy National Security Adviser Tom Donilon, in a meeting in Beijing.Wang said the two countries should bolster cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, investment, finance, new energy and infrastructure upgrading, as their economies are interdependent and complimentary to each other.China is ready to work with the United States to well implement consensus reached by state leaders of the two countries, for sustainable, healthy and steady development of bilateral ties, he said.Wang said the international community should enhance cooperation because the world economy, though on the way to recovery, still encounters twists and turns.He said China is focusing on the change of the growth pattern for more balanced development of the economy.Summers and Donilon briefed Wang on the U.S. economy and the Obama administration's measures to stimulate the economy and create jobs.They stressed that the United States and China should strengthen coordination in macro policies and promote cooperation for a strong, balanced and sustainable growth of global economy.Also on Monday, Li Yuanchao, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with the two U.S. officials.Li, also head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the Sino-U.S. ties had maintained a stable development since President Obama took office.China would work with the United States to enhance dialogues and cooperation, while properly handling the differences, to push forward the bilateral ties, he said.8 Summers said the United States attached great importance to the U.S.-Sino relations and firmly believed that the two countries had broad interests and faced with common challenges, including sustainable development of global economy, regional security and climate change.He said the United States was committed to working with China for a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship in the 21st century.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also met with Summers and Donilon on Monday. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee recently held a meeting to solicit opinions and recommendations of non-Communist party members about the national development plan for the next half-decade, according to a statement Xinhua received Tuesday.At the meeting, Chinese President Hu Jintao, also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, briefed leaders of the non-Communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as other celebrities without party affiliations, on the drawing up of the documents of the Fifth Plenum of the 17th CPC Central Committee.In the communique, issued after the four-day plenum concluded Monday, the CPC set the development agenda for the next five years with key objectives to achieve breakthroughs in economic restructuring and improve living standards nationwide.Chairpersons of the eight non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and Chen Zhu, the health minister who is not a member of any political party, said they agreed with the CPC Central Committee's overall concept and arrangement of the development plan for the next five years.They also made suggestions on issues, including the transformation of the economic growth mode, fostering emerging industries with strategic importance and improving China's innovative edge.After hearing their speeches, Hu said the CPC would earnestly study and adopt these opinions, and it would continue to expand and consolidate the patriotic united front to pool all forces that can be united to build a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way.In a separate meeting Tuesday, Du Qinglin, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, explained the key points of the speeches by CPC General Secretary Hu Jintao and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the plenum to leaders of the non-Communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as other celebrities without party affiliations.

Following is the full text of a joint communique issued at the end of consultations:JOINT COMMUNIQUE OF THE SECOND ROUND OF POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS BETWEEN CHINESE AND AFRICAN FOREIGN MINISTERSNew York, 23 September 2010 Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi (L, front) chairs the second political consultation between the foreign ministers of China and African Countries at the UN headquarters in New York, Sept. 23, 2010.In accordance with the mechanism of regular political dialogue between Chinese and African Foreign Ministers set up at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the Foreign Ministers of China and 42 African countries, or their representatives, held their second political consultation in New York on 23 September 2010. The Chairperson of the African Union ( AU) Commission was invited to the consultation.The meeting was co-chaired by the People's Republic of China and the Arab Republic of Egypt, the two co-chair countries of FOCAC.The Chinese and African sides had an in-depth exchange of views on strengthening China-Africa cooperation in international affairs, making progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and promoting peace and security in Africa. They reached the following consensus:1. The two sides applauded FOCAC's important role in guiding the comprehensive and fast growth of China-Africa friendship over the past 10 years since FOCAC's inception, and its contribution to South-South cooperation, common development and the building of a harmonious world. They reaffirmed the commitment of FOCAC member countries to improving the institutional building of FOCAC, strengthening practical cooperation in various areas within the FOCAC framework, enriching the Forum and promoting in-depth development of the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership.2. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive implementation of the follow-up actions of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. They highly appreciated the fact that despite the adverse impact of the global financial crisis, the Chinese government announced new measures for enhancing China-Africa cooperation at the 4th FOCAC Ministerial Conference held in Sharm El Sheikh in 2009.
