(KGTV) - Someone posted a threat against Mar Vista Academy in Imperial Beach on social media, said San Diego Police Monday.The threat was posted on an Instagram account, police said. Officers did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.According to Sweetwater Union High School District spokesman Manuel Rubio, no children were on campus when the threat was reported.Mar Vista Academy is currently a secure campus, Rubio added, saying there are no plans to increase security on campus Tuesday. 526

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif., (KGTV)-- Looming questions about border security arise after dozens of people were caught on camera, breaching the fence at Friendship Park yesterday. After being captured and detained, all 52 people are now seeking asylum. A local Youtuber who goes by the username, "Mexican Andy" live-streamed the video of the migrants rushing the border. At around 4 PM, Thursday, he witnessed a man, using what looks to be a knife to slice through the fence and razor wires. The moment it was wide enough for an adult to crawl through, the rush began. US Border Patrol agents said they now have 52 people in custody, including 23 men, 12 women, and 17 children, for illegally crossing the border. This includes 27 families, 24 single adults, and one unaccompanied child, hailing from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. All of them have since filed for asylum. This kind of breach is hardly a rarity for Border Patrol. Last November, just after the installation of Concertina wire on top of the border wall, two women and a child appeared to squeeze through the fence and walk into the United States.Days later, thermal cameras captured a man, attempting to kick the same razor wire at the San Diego border. Later that same month was the largest caravan rush in recent years, which shut down the San Ysidro border crossing, freeways, and surrounding businesses. With so many more incidents of asylum seekers trying to cross into the United States illegally, it is unclear if Border Patrol has any plans of adding extra security. 10News also asked if this latest group will be sent back to Mexico while their asylum claims are processed, as instructed by President Trump. The Baltimore senior said that at six years old he heard a story on the radio about a student who was accepted to all of the Ivy League schools and knew that was his goal."I'm going to do that one day," said Johnson.And on 'Ivy Decision Day' he learned that he finally made it a reality. Johnson, who attends the Gilman School in Batlimore, serves as the President of the Diversity Council, a member of the school's acapella group, school band, and an avid volunteer, all while being a National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student with a 98.1 average.More than 280,000 applicants applied to Ivy League schools last year. Out of that number, less than five of them were able to achieve acceptance by all eight colleges. Johnson is not only a 'goal getter' but he's the first Gilman student to achieve this distinction of acceptance.   1072

(KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials announced that the first wave of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccines would be distributed to UCSD Medical Center and Rady Children's Hospital.While COVID-19 remains at the forefront of everyone's mind, officials also remind people not to forget about the dangers of influenza. They say both illnesses should be taken seriously to avoid overcrowding hospitals.Recently, the Imperial Beach Recreation Center has been a COVID-19 testing site. But Saturday, it transformed into the county's free flu clinic."Every year, we encourage people to get the flu vaccine," San Diego County Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Denise Foster said. "This year, it's even more important because of the pandemic."Dr. Foster says with the FDA's Emergency Authorization of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, the county is preparing for a large-scale roll-out by early next week. The first place to get a portion of the 28,000-dose county allocation will be UCSD Medical Center and Rady Children's Hospital."Just within a few days of that, we are going to get another allocation, which includes the county and some of the local hospitals directly," Dr. Foster said.But COVID is not their only focus. In the 2019 to 2020 flu season, more than 20,000 San Diegans got the flu. Of that, 108 people died.So far this year, the numbers are drastically lower due to social distancing and masking protocols. The county hopes to keep it that way. The idea is to keep people out of hospitals, whether it's for the flu or COVID.Christine Kelly brought her granddaughter to the clinic to get a flu shot."I've had a bad flu in the past to where I thought I was not going to make it," Kelly said.With the spread of COVID, she says she did not want to take any chances."We don't want to go anywhere near the hospital," Kelly said. "We want to save it for the people that need to be there."According to the county, 84% of ICU beds are already taken as of Dec. 11.Talks of COVID-19 vaccines are still in their infancy. But with Moderna and Astra Zeneca approvals also expected in the near future, the Imperial Beach Recreation Center could once again evolve, next time, into a COVID-19 vaccine site."It's very possible," Dr. Foster said.
