A panel of three federal judges in North Carolina ruled Monday the state's congressional map is an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander that favors Republicans, and said it may require districts to be redrawn before the November elections.Republicans hold 10 of the state's 13 seats in the House of Representatives, and a redrawn map could put more seats in play for Democrats -- potentially affecting control of the House.The judges acknowledged primary elections have already occurred, but said they were reluctant to let voting take place in districts that courts twice found had been unconstitutionally drawn.The same decision was reached by the court in January, but the Supreme Court declined in June to hear the case and it was sent back for reconsideration. The Supreme Court has never ruled a partisan gerrymander to be unconstitutional, and it passed up three separate opportunities to do so in the last term.The decision Monday could result in an election-year appeal to the Supreme Court. The court is currently evenly split on ideological lines and lacks a ninth justice to tip the scale. A Manhattan judge ruled on Wednesday that a bar can legally eject and not serve a customer for wearing a hat containing President Donald Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again," the New York Post reported. The judge ruled that there is not a law against political discrimination. In January 2017, Greg Piatek was asked to leave the New York City watering hole The Happiest Hour because he was wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat. Piatek claimed that a bartender told him that they do not serve Trump supporters. According to the New York Post, Piatek claimed in the lawsuit that the incident “offended his sense of being American.”Piatek's attorney argued that his client wore the hat to pay tribute to victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Piatek claimed he visited the 9/11 Memorial before going ot the bar. “The purpose of the hat is that he wore it because he was visiting the 9/11 Memorial,” Piatek's attorney Paul Liggieri said, according to the Post.   Attorneys for The Happiest Hour claimed that political beliefs are not a protected class. A night of teenage fun turned into tragedy on a rural road in Indiana.Four teens, who were attending a slumber party, were killed and four others were injured when an SUV plowed into them while they were pushing a woman's stalled car.It happened Saturday night when a Chevy Suburban driven by Cara Selby broke down just a block away from her home in Cortland, Indiana, officials said.Selby was throwing a slumber party for her daughter. When the teens at the sleepover came out to help push Selby's car back home, another vehicle hit them from behind, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said.Killed were: Nevaeh Law, 14; Jenna A. A vintage plane crashed in the Swiss Alps on Saturday, killing all 20 people on board, police said.The mid-century plane, a Junkers JU-52, crashed in the Piz Segnas mountain range, near the Austrian border.All 17 passengers and three crew members died in the crash, which happened around 5 p.m. local time. Scripps that the U.S. citizens died on Oct. 28 while in Turks and Caicos.USA Today reported that New York Attorney Mohammad Malik, 35, and his bride, Dr. Noor Shan, 29, were married just four days when they drowned after being pulled under a rip current near their resort.The groom's father, Maqbool Malik, told Long Island Newsday that the loss is "devastating."He told the newspaper that the couple was pulled out from the water by witnesses, who performed CPR, but they both died at the scene.According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, riptides are "powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water."Officials with the State Department offered their "sincerest condolences to their loved ones on their loss" and said it had "worked to provide all appropriate consular assistance to the families" and "out of respect to the families during this difficult time, we have no further comment." 1075
