EL CAJON (KGTV) - An El Cajon family says a drive to see a fireworks show turned into a racially motivated nightmare, ending in a mob of people ripping off their car door.On July 4th, just before 9 p.m., William Gavin, his fiancee Alana Christman and their two children - a 6-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy - were driving on Lima Court, looking for Kennedy park and the fireworks show."Looking down at my GPS, when I hear, 'You can't come into our neighborhood,'" said Christman.Christman, who was in the front passenger seat, looked up."Caught someone at the corner of my eye. Saw this flame on my chest and it started throwing embers," said Christman.A cigarette had flown in through an open window. Gavin, who is African American, says he stopped the car, got out and saw the man who tossed the cigarette: a white man in his 50s. Gavin asked him a question."'Why would you do that?' Then he's coming at me ... He takes a swing at me, and I throw him down. Got into my car because my children are screaming," said Gavin.Christman says what happened next was surreal and scary."Completely freaked out. A lot of adrenaline and just upset for my kids," said Christman.She says 5 to 6 white men, many holding beer bottles, started yelling and attacking the vehicle."Reaching into my car and they were hitting him. There's a hinge on my door that's ripped off. The door was ripped off," said Christman.Gavin believes the attack was racially motivated."I know when something's racial, I know when someone is aiming at me. I moved away from Mississippi to get away from this nonsense," said Gavin.Eventually, Gavin drove off, parked around the corner and quickly called police. He says a Hispanic family approached, claiming the men just targeted them."They were throwing water bottles at their car saying they can't be in their neighborhood," said Gavin.The couple says police told them the man who threw the cigarette would be cited for misdemeanor assault."I want justice to start happening, I want things to start happening the right away," said Gavin.The couple says they're frustrated at police for not interviewing the Hispanic family or the angry group of neighbors.A police spokesperson says the man accused of tossing the cigarette is a suspect involving a misdemeanor charge of throwing an object at a vehicle. Police say many witnesses had left a chaotic scene and the investigation is ongoing. They tell 10News there were complaints of the couple speeding, and a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian suffering minor injuries, an allegation the couple denies. 2578

Dr. Anthony Fauci said during a Congressional hearing Tuesday that President Donald Trump has never directed him to "slow down" the amount of coronavirus testing being conducted in the U.S. in order to prevent new cases from being reported.Fauci added that to his knowledge, Trump had not issued such a direction to anyone else on the coronavirus task force.In addition, Fauci said that the U.S. would be conducting more testing in the coming months and increasing contact tracing abilities.Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, also denied that he had been told by Trump to limit the number of tests.On Saturday, at a rally in Oklahoma, Trump said that he asked officials in his administration to "slow down" testing capacity in order to keep the number of confirmed cases steady. During a briefing on Monday press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany said that Trump's comments were made "in jest."However, in an interview with Scripps national politics editor Joe St. George, Trump did not specifically say if he asked officials to slow down testing, but added that "if it did slow down, frankly, I think we're way ahead of ourselves." 1184

Doctors at Henry Ford Health System penned an opened letter on the hospital's study of hydroxychloroquine being used to treat COVID-19.It comes just days after Dr. Anthony Fauci called the study "flawed" while testifying in front of a House subcommittee."As an early hotspot for the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen and lived its devastating effects alongside our patients and families. Perhaps that’s what makes us even more determined to rally our researchers, front-line care team members and leaders together in boldness, participating in scientific research, including clinical trials, to find the safest care and most effective treatments. While feeling the same sense of urgency everyone else does to recognize a simple, single remedy for COVID-19, we need to be realistic in the time it takes to fully understand the optimal therapy or combination of therapies required of a new virus we are all trying to contain," Dr. Adnan Munkarah and Dr. Steven Kalkanis said in the letter.The study has been among a handful to show positive results of using hydroxychloroquine as a coronavirus medicine. But the FDA has recommended against using the drug outside of a hospital or clinical setting after a number of studies showed the drug was ineffective at treating coronavirus patients. On Friday, Fauci said the study, which has been touted by President Donald Trump and other Republicans, contradicts other studies that found the drug does not effectively treat COVID-19."That study is a flawed study, and I think anyone who examines it carefully is that it is not a randomized placebo-controlled trial," Fauci said. "The most well-accepted and definitive method to determine the efficacy of a treatment is a double-blind, randomized clinical trial. (KGTV) - A woman charged with a DUI crash that killed her passenger and seriously injured a young man changed her plea to guilty Tuesday in El Cajon court.Prosecutors said Tania Molinar was drunk when she drove her Mazda into the path of James Dotson’s Ford Ranger on Avocado Blvd. in May. The impact split the truck in two.Molinar’s passenger, David Sarabia Lopez, was killed. Dotson testified about the details of the violent crash during the preliminary hearing.Dotson has not recovered from his injuries. He said his medical bills total 0,000 and he has another surgery scheduled.“I don't do anything I do before. I was kind of the kid that rode dirt bikes, had a race truck, I like to go to the desert, go climbing, I can't do any of that. Drivers in New Orleans are claiming that they have been issued speeding tickets, even though their cars are in park, thanks to a speed camera operating in the city, WWL-TV reported. Donald Schulz told WWL that he has been issued speeding citations 10 or 11 times while his car remained parked. The camera, which is designed to ticket speeders, captured Schulz's license plate, instead of the car passing by Schulz's car. Schulz has had to make frequent stops at New Orleans City Hall to fight citations, causing him a headache and time wasted. "Whoever is responsible for reviewing these violations is not doing their job," Schulz told WWL.According to Fox News, the citations range from to 0.  City officials told WWL that a contractor is to blame, and that the contractor will train its employee how to properly issue citations.  906
