CINCINNATI — Matt Moeddel worked tirelessly to comfort and care for his COVID-19 patients, insisting on staying by their sides as they battled a disease so contagious and deadly that most patients who die from it must do so alone. The 43-year-old nurse wouldn't let that happen and held his patients' hands for as long as he could -- until he became infected with COVID-19 himself.His former patients still send his family thank you letters."He wouldn't let somebody die without somebody there with them," said Bethany Moeddel, Matt's sister.Matt was the director of nursing at Bridgeway Pointe in Arlington Heights, Ohio, and won awards for the job he did. "So he would go into the rooms and hold their hands."By May, Matt tested positive for COVID-19 and his Type 2 diabetes made him vulnerable to complications from the illness. Bethany said she suggested her brother go to the hospital, but he hesitated, reluctant to leave his dog alone.Then, 21 days later, family found Matt dead in his home."He was sitting on the stairs with his shoes on and his keys in his pocket," said Bethany. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A South Bay city is the latest the approve the sale of legal marijuana in San Diego County.An ordinance that will allow the sale of legal weed in Chula Vista was approved by city leaders Tuesday, after City Council twice delayed a vote on the issue.The ordinance allows for 12 commercial licenses (three in each of the city's four districts) and eight total storefronts (two per district). RELATED: Parents raise concerns over marijuana shop operating near children in Chula VistaPot shops will be required to be at least 150 feet from residential zones, 600 feet from youth centers or parks, and 1000 feet from churches, schools, or daycare centers. Business applicants must have a year of experience operating a legal marijuana business.The ordinance will also allow legal delivery services to operate in the city and for businesses that grow cannabis, though only in industrial areas of the city. Now, Chula Vista resident will be tasked with voting on a local cannabis tax. Tax dollars would pay for new changes, processes, and enforcement of marijuana in the city.If everything is approved, the measure would go into effect Jan. 1, 2019, a year after a voter-approved proposition legalized weed across California.Chula Vista leaders hope the new ordinance will help crack down on illegal pot shops operating within the city. 1421

CINCINNATI – Charles Adams went on a rampage before he died in police custody Wednesday, acting wildly and damaging residents’ property at a Westwood apartment complex, according to a resident and 911 callers."It was bizarre, so bizarre," India Lavender told Scripps station WCPO in Cincinnati.Lavender said the 36-year-old Adams jumped on her car and then jumped into her neighbor’s window."(Somebody) came and knocked on my door and told me there was a man standing on top of my car," Lavender said.  “I came out. He yelled at me and told me to call the police, somebody was chasing him,  and he literally jumped off my car into my neighbor's window."Adams damaged at least five others cars while calling out for help as he went along, residents said.“It definitely seemed as if he was hallucinating,” Lavender said. “In his mind, someone really was chasing him, 'cause he was trying to get everyone else in the building to see the other people that weren’t there."Body camera video of Adams' arrest shows him becoming increasingly lethargic and unresponsive after officers put him in handcuffs. At one point, while standing, he slumps forward until he is nearly bent double.When officers escort him outside and allow him to sit down against a railing, he begins to drool and twitch before losing consciousness. "Jeez," one officer says in the recording. "He's foaming at the mouth."His breathing stopped shortly after his eyes closed.The fire department gave Adams first aid, including CPR, but he died on the scene.It’s unclear what brought Adams to the apartment complex. Neighbors said they had never seen him."Officers did not use any type of force to subdue Mr. Adams during the arrest activity," Lt. Stephen Saunders, Cincinnati police public information officer, said in the statement. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A family in Chula Vista is beefing up security and warning their neighbors after surveillance cameras caught someone breaking in. Video shows a burglar smashing through a door in the house and ransacking the place before the family returned home with their young son with special needs. “It’s almost like TSA after 911. You just gotta not stop living your life; you got to fortify yourself and live your life a little differently right now,” said Dean Riggott.It’s the life Riggott, his wife, and their 9-year-old son say they’re living after surveillance footage from their kitchen captured the incident. “It’s a complete violation, like, right now I’m sleeping downstairs to be the first line of defense.”Riggott is defending his family against a burglar who smashed through a glass door and made his way inside. The family wasn’t home at the time. Their son was the first to notice the home had been burglarized.“He said, 'Dad, there is something wrong with the door, and there’s stuff all over the ground',” said Riggott.The 9-year-old couldn’t see what was wrong with the door because he is mostly blind. He also has autism. “Told my son immediately to get out, grabbed a knife and my club.”Police came minutes after being called but the burglar was long gone. The family was uneasy after seeing iPads, video game systems, and other expensive items untouched. “He’s talking to somebody the whole time on a Bluetooth, and I think that’s a key point.”Other than destroying things, the thief seemed to only target vintage, high-end purses, taking about ,000 worth. “He came in with socks on, he’s in the system; he must be in the system if he’s worried about his fingerprints.”Riggott says he hopes someone will recognize the man's face. (KGTV) - Neighbors say several aggressive coyotes are treating some South Bay parks as their hunting ground, attacking pets of all sizes.Along East Naples Street, surveillance video captured a hard-to-watch scene a few weeks ago in Patty Prescott's yard: a coyote toying with a feral kitten that Prescott was caring for."I ran out of the house. I started yelling, waving my arms. That's when the coyote dropped the kitten," said Prescott.Sadly, the kitten died. Prescott says coyote sightings have surged in the neighborhood, with more than six pets killed in the last month. Just to the south, at Max Field, home to little league fields, neighbors have been reporting several aggressive coyotes roaming the baseball fields and nearby Loma Verde Park since the start of the pandemic."Frightening. No fear of people. You make noise, and they take a step back and then stare you down. Now they're coming out earlier, throughout the day, any time throughout the day. They're searching and looking," said neighbor Rachel Morineau.Park goers say the coyotes are going after dogs of all sizes. In late May, cellphone video showed one of the coyotes leaping a park fence and attacking a large pit bull, before its owner chased it off.The coyotes' behavior has unnerved neighbors."I don't feel safe, even in my front yard," said Prescott.A group of neighbors has banned together, starting a Gofundme campaign to address the issue. Their concerns grabbed the attention of City Councilman Mike Diaz, who secured funding to trap the coyotes. Because state laws don't allow for them to be relocated, they will be euthanized."It's not something we wanted to do, but they are getting very aggressive, and it's the only option California gives us," said Morineau.Until they're trapped, Prescott plans to defend herself and her other cats."My son sent me a pellet gun, and I plan on using it for my protection," said Prescott.Councilman Diaz says the funding will also help form a long-term plan looking at the presence of coyotes in the city. 2055
