Former California governor and film star Arnold Schwarzenegger had open-heart surgery in California on Thursday to replace an aging pulmonic valve. His representative, Daniel Ketchell, said that the surgery was successful and that 70-year-old Schwarzenegger is in stable condition at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles."Schwarzenegger is awake and his first words were actually 'I'm back', so he is in good spirits," Ketchell tweeted. 443

Former President George H.W. Bush's family intentionally planned a state funeral for him that will avoid criticism of President Donald Trump despite the long-running animosity between the two families, The Washington Post reported Monday night.Trump and Bush's son, Jeb Bush, engaged in a vitriolic primary rivalry during the 2016 campaign, and Trump has mocked and criticized the legacies of both Presidents Bush. A funeral that avoids criticizing Trump would be in contrast to the September memorial for Sen. John McCain, which was marked by implicit references to Trump and his behavior as president. The Post, citing a former administration official, said that the Bush family contacted the White House this past summer to make it clear that the President would be welcome at the funeral and, according to the paper, to "assure him that the focus would be on Bush's life rather than their disagreements."PHOTOS: President George H.W. Former Vice President Joe Biden came out ahead in Thursday's duel of town halls with President Donald Trump — at least in terms of TV ratings.According to The Associated Press, Biden garnered 14.1 million viewers on ABC between 8 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. ET on Thursday night. During that same time span, Trump drew a total of 13.5 million viewers during his hour-long event on NBC. These numbers include ratings for both network and cable audiences, who could have watched the president's event on CNBC or MSNBC. Biden's event was only broadcast on ABC on TV. Trump and Biden were originally slated to appear together for a town hall-style debate. However, the Commission on Presidential Debates said earlier this month that the event would take place virtually following Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis. Trump then dropped out, saying he wouldn't "waste his time" with a virtual debate.Biden then scheduled his town hall event with ABC News. It wasn't until Wednesday that NBC News announced Trump would hold his own town hall at the same time as Biden. 1052

For those wondering if “Jeopardy!” would go on after Alex Trebek’s death, Jeopardy producers confirmed on Monday that the show must go on.Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards released a statement on Monday saying the show would resume production on November 30. The show will resume with Ken Jennings, a former contestant who was deemed the “Greatest of All Time” in January, as the first to guest host following Trebek’s death. Other guest hosts will be announced in the future.Jennings joined the program at the start of the current season as a consulting producer. Before winning the “Greatest of All Time” series in January, Jennings set a still-standing record of 74 wins in a row in 2004.“Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him,” said Richards. “We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues. By bringing in familiar guest hosts for the foreseeable future, our goal is to create a sense of community and continuity for our viewers.”Originally, Jeopardy! said it would have new episodes taped before Trebek's death through December 25. On Monday, the game show said that during the weeks of Dec. 21 and 28, Jeopardy! will air a top 10 of Trebek's past episodes. The final episode filmed before Trebek's death will air January 8. New episodes featuring Jennings will air starting January 11. "There will only ever be one Alex Trebek, but I'm honored to be helping Jeopardy! out with this in January," Jennings tweeted.Trebek died two weeks ago after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. 1649

Former Gov. Deval Patrick has decided not to run for president and plans to announce his decision soon, a source close to the Massachusetts Democrat tells CNN.Patrick, a two-term governor and close ally to former President Barack Obama, had been considering a 2020 run after entering the private sector and taking a job at Bain Capital in 2015. He had upped his political involvement ahead of the 2018 midterms -- endorsing candidates in South Carolina, Texas, New Jersey and a handful of other states -- leading many to believe he was going to jump into the race.Patrick, despite the speculation that he was going to run, had repeatedly acknowledged the enormity of the decision."It's on my radar screen," Patrick told a public radio station in Kansas City during the midterms, adding that "it's a huge decision.""I am trying to think through 2020," Patrick said. "And that's a decision I'm trying to think through from a personal and family point of view."Patrick also expressed concerns about standing out in what is expected to be a wide-open Democratic field."It's hard to see how you even get noticed in such a big, broad field without being shrill, sensational or a celebrity," Patrick told David Axelrod, a former top Obama adviser, in September. "And I'm none of those things and I'm never going to be any of those things."A spokesman for Patrick declined to comment on the governor's decision not to run for President, which was first reported by Politico.Patrick has been receiving private support from many of the same aides and advisers who helped Obama vault into the White House in 2008."Deval would make an outstanding President," Valerie Jarrett, Obama's former senior adviser, told the New Yorker in November. "President Obama and Deval are very much alike in terms of their core values, what drove them into public service, their willingness to lend a hand, the responsibility to give back." 1918
