SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The FBI is asking for the public’s help identifying the man who reportedly robbed a San Diego bank. According to the agency, the man robbed a U.S. Bank located inside a Vons grocery store at 665 Saturn Boulevard. The suspect reportedly approached the teller and made a verbal demand for cash, telling the employee he had a gun. The man made off with an unspecified amount of cash. Pictures show the man wearing a hooded Padres sweatshirt and mirrored sunglasses. He is described as a white or possibly Middle Eastern man in his late 20s or early 30s. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The man accused of fatally stabbing a motorist seven times in the South Bay during a road rage dispute was convicted of second-degree murder Friday.Jurors found Rickey Vernon Smith, 60, guilty after only one day of deliberations in the Nov. 27, 2018, slaying of 36-year-old Horace Williams Jr.Smith is set to be sentenced on Dec. 11.RELATED: Local man brings families light in times of needThe road rage confrontation between Smith and Williams came to a head near Chula Vista Golf Course, after the two argued along several roadways last November. Williams reportedly threw a soda cup at Smith's vehicle before Smith struck Williams' minivan.Prosecutors say Smith then got out of his truck after cutting Williams off, walked over to his driver's side window, punched Williams in the face and walked away, until walking back and stabbing Williams several times with a knife.Witnesses said Williams got out of his van and collapsed in the roadway, bleeding heavily. The father of five was pronounced dead at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.RELATED: Father of five killed in Chula Vista road rage stabbingSmith's attorney argued Williams was the aggressor in the case. During a 911 call after the stabbing, Smith told a dispatcher Williams had cut him off and threw a drink at his truck. He added that he followed Williams and later punched and stabbed him out of self-defense after Williams punched him.Smith claimed Williams had lunged at something near the center console of his van and Smith produced his knife "as a last resort," defense attorney Brian Watkins said in court.Prosecutors argued against those claims, citing physical evidence that Smith had forcefully stabbed Williams and was not harmed in the altercation.City News Service contributed to this report. 1801

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The first thing Whitney Dickerson does when she gets home from work each evening is make a cup of her favorite tea.It's because her job as a veterinary technician can be stressful. "Everyday I go in and I don't know what's going to go through those doors," she said. "It could be a really emaciated animal with severe mange, it could be a really happy lab coming through."But Dickerson's angst doesn't end when her shift is over. She's living paycheck to paycheck, and has moved seven times in her six years in San Diego just to find a rent she can afford.COMPLETE COVERAGE: Making it in San DiegoShe's now splitting a two-bedroom apartment in Talmadge, which goes for ,874 a month. She's not sure how much more she'll be able to afford. "I feel like the city's slowly pushing me out," she said.Now, the rent's getting so high that it's near a tipping point for thousands of San Diegans. More than half of those who responded to a recent 10News Union-Tribune scientific poll said they'd seriously considered leaving California in the last year.  </p><p> The average rent is now ,887 a month, up 8 percent from a year earlier, according to Marketpointe Realty Advisors. And CoreLogic reports the median home price in the county is now about 0,000. "That's a problem for everybody, and I think everybody feels that," said Rick Gentry, who heads the San Diego Housing Commission, which oversees affordable housing in the city. </p><p><strong>HOW DID WE GET HERE?Gentry describes something of a perfect storm when it comes to housing in San Diego -1) There's not enough housing for the middle class.2) There aren't enough resources for low-income individuals.3) The current market has already swallowed up the glut of homes built during the housing bubble before the market crashed in 2008. "And that means the marketplace has gotten that much more expensive and that much tighter," Gentry said. "There's no place to move to."Gentry added turnover has declined drastically at the 3,400 affordable apartments the commission manages, and the section 8 voucher waiting list has ballooned to 80,000. Plus, San Diego County continues to grow with more jobs - employers added 27,000 new payroll positions in the last 12 months. Meanwhile, developers in the county only pulled permits for 10,000 new homes. "It takes a long, long time to get approvals for buildings to put new product online," said Mark Goldman, a real estate lecturer at San Diego State University. "There are more and more impact fees that makes it more expensive, there's a limited amount of land to do it."Goldman said it's a very complicated, risky business to start with a piece of vacant land and try to put a lot of housing on it.He said the amount of time that it takes given environmental review, regulations, and delays raises the cost of projects - to the point that some developers just drop it. WHAT WILL SOLVE THE CRISIS?There is movement in the works to spur development, including a region-wide plan to encourage development along transit routes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The mayor of Temecula has announced his resignation after facing raging criticism over an email stating he didn't “believe there’s ever been a good person of color killed by a police officer." James "Stew" Stewart's comments went viral June 2 and drew a firestorm of calls for his resignation and threats of protests. Stewart made the racist remark in a reply to a constituent "concerned about our police officers and their sensitivity training.""As you know the City of Temecula does not have its own Police Department," Stewart said in his email. "We contract with Riverside County Sheriff's Department.""And I don't believe there's ever been a good person of color killed by a police officer," said Stewart.Stewart posted a copy of the email on his own Facebook page explaining that he is dyslexic and uses voice text, and that he published the note without proofreading what was recorded."I may not be the best writer and I sometimes misspeak, but I am not racist. I deeply regret this mistake and I own it, entirely. I am truly sorry," Stewart said in his resignation letter posted on Facebook late Thursday night.Stewart's comments brought tension to the small tourist destination city during a time in which the nation is seeing daily demonstrations and protests against police killings and racism. A Change.Org petition has started circulating demanding that city officials acknowledge that "systemic racism and police brutality exist in Temecula and the need for reform and consequence."Temecula, a city of about 115,000 residents in Riverside County, is located about 85 miles north of San Diego. The area is a popular Southern California destination known for its dozens of wineries, hot air balloon rides, and festivals similar to Northern California's wine country.Stewart's biography remains published on the city's website. It says that Stewart moved to Temecula in 1991 with his wife and three children from Oswego, Illinois. According to his page, the businessman owns eight barbershops in the area and that he has worked as a dentist during mission trips to Haiti pulling teeth and conducting eye glass clinics in Ethiopia.The city has not released plans to fill his vacant seat.
