After standing on a street corner and asking strangers for employment, one homeless man in Silicon Valley has been overwhelmed by job offers.David Casarez, a college graduate in his 20s, was spotted holding a sign that read, "Homeless hungry 4 success take a resume." He was handing out his resume to motorists in Mountain View, California -- where Google is headquartered -- and hoping to make a job connection.Casarez moved to California several months ago, seeking a job in the tech industry. All sorts of medical providers are willing to play a role in vaccine distribution once it becomes widely available.“I think what's going to happen is the vaccination process goes down the pathway, and in the next year, you'll see more and more states get on board with that,” said Dr. Robert Zena, President of the American Association of Dental Boards.Zena says we've already seen several state legislatures approve dentists to give the COVID-19 vaccine and about a dozen more are in the process of doing so.Back in October, the federal government recommended states expand their list of vaccine providers.Dentists may be able to reach even more people than traditional doctors. About 9% of Americans see a dentist every year but not a physician, according to the American Dental Association.“There are a lot of dental offices in more rural areas where it's harder for those people to get access to care. So, the distribution of dentists across the country is really widespread,” said Zena.People may also be more willing to accept a vaccine once they talk with a dentist they trust.On the flip side, a COVID-19 vaccine at a dentist's office could help drum up interest and new dental business.During the H1N1 pandemic, dentists in some states gave the vaccine.Some areas have also authorized dentists to give the flu shot. Last year, Oregon became the first state to allow dentists to give any vaccine to any patient, child or adult.The same consideration is being made for eye doctors to administer COVID-19 vaccines. 1528

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) — Kevin Coleman feels a range of emotions when he steps foot onto the land in Alpine he used to call home. He and his wife Monica lost two houses on the property during the July 2018 West Fire. "Disappointing, heartache, anxiety, stress, how do you rebuild?" he says.The 22-acre parcel in Alpine has the remnants of the two houses, while a third home on the property is rented out. Meanwhile, the Colemans are living with other family. "We've exhausted the little bit of insurance money that we got to do the debris removal, the cleanup," Kevin says. "We had to take care of trees and all the damage on the property." About 60 homes burned in the West Fire, a number of them still not rebuilt. Looking for any solution, Monica began calling contractors she'd worked with in the past. She found her answer sitting in a San Diego storage yard near Oak Park. That's where the city had been storing a historic home since a 2014 legal settlement with The Academy of Our Lady of Peace. As part of the settlement, the city was forced to remove two historic homes from Normal Heights to make way for the school to expand. It had one remaining in the yard, and agreed to sell it to the Colemans for . Monica mailed the city a signed contract with a bill Thursday. The only catch: The family must keep the home's historic character. "I was very shocked, and bawled my eyes out when they said, we're going to sell you this house for a dollar," Monica said. The next steps, however, are costly. Kevin says a contractor quoted the family ,000 to move the home to their land in Alpine. It will also cost about ,000 in labor to make the home habitable. After living in California’s Bay Area for eight years, Andrew Sanchez moved his family to Hawaii’s countryside“There are those obstacles,” he said of living in a metropolitan area. “There’s incredible amounts of traffic, pollution, crime. You know, serious things.”Sanchez and his wife are both teachers and wanted to save money and live a slower pace of life with their children. They say those were big factors in moving out of the big city.“We wanted to have an opportunity to spend more time with them and we wanted to make the right steps to watch them the best life they could,” Sanchez said.Now more people are looking to do what the Sanchez family did -- leave the big city for a smaller suburb.“It’s not surprising given the pandemic we are experiencing,” said Lawrence Yun, chief economist of the National Association of Realtors.He says due in part to the COVID-19 crisis and more companies allowing employees to work from home, there’s an exodus from downtown areas across the country.“People will say, ‘Why am I living so close job center when I can have perhaps a better affordability -- housing affordability out in the suburbs,” Yun said.According to a recent Harris Poll survey, nearly one-third of Americans are considering moving to a less densely populated area because of the coronavirus outbreak.Yun says this could impact the real estate market.“Before the pandemic, there was a housing shortage,” he said. “We knew that homebuilders needed to build significantly more to fully satisfy the demand.”Looking to help to meet that demand is housing developer Brain Levitt.“People are coming to Colorado because of lifestyle choice,” he said.Levitt is the president of Nava Real Estate Development. His company recently finished a 196-unit development called Lakehouse area outside of downtown Denver.He says a third of buyers are from out of the of area.“What we are finding, just because the cost of living or maybe new job opportunities or even just the lifestyle -- getting out of the city and getting to a place where you can work and play, it just seems like it’s attracting a lot of people,” Levitt said.That attraction of living away from a big city, however, does come at a cost.“It really required me to check my entitlements,” Sanchez said.Back in Hawaii, Sanchez said his family did have to give up several amenities when moving out of a big city.In the end, however, it was well worth it.“My kids are safe,” Sanchez said. “And you can’t put a price tag on that.” 2501

  

A man in Florida called police while Collier County Sheriff's deputies were chasing him Tuesday morning.The sheriff's office report said it all started because the suspect acted suspiciously. The sheriff's deputy went up to the car and smelled a smell similar to marijuana.The deputy spotted a baggie that contained a green leafy substance. The suspect then grabbed the bag, put it in his mouth, and sped away."I need help, please," said Aric Frydberg, the man who was arrested after the 7-mile pursuit on U.S. 41. "There's a police officer chasing me," he added.Fort Myers-based WFTX obtained the 911 call. The operator tried numerous times to get Frydberg to pull over.But during the phone call, Frydberg tried to get the operator to make some calls on his behalf. The first set of calls was to his parents."Call my mom, call my mom," said Frydberg. "Please call my mom," he added while on the phone.Then he took it a step further and wanted to speak to the president.  "Donald Trump is a close friend of mine," said Frydberg. "We made a deal," he added while he was trying to convince the operator.Frydberg then changed gears and tried a different strategy.  "My mom called me and said she was in a car accident in Homestead," he said. "My flesh and blood was in a car accident and I have to stop and help you," Frydberg added.Deputies eventually got him off the road and phone.The report goes on to say the deputies searched the car and found glass pipes with burnt leafy residue on them. They later field tested the particles and it tested positive for marijuana.Frydberg is being charged with tampering with evidence, resisting an officer, and two counts of battery of an officer. 1744
