The Georgia Democratic Party and gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams' campaign filed a lawsuit in federal court Sunday asking for rejected absentee ballots and provisional ballots to be counted in the Georgia governor's race.The lawsuit challenges the rejection of more than 1,000 absentee ballots for missing information or mismatching information, like birth dates or addresses.The lawsuit also seeks relief for voters whose provisional ballots were rejected in Gwinnett and Dekalb counties, which are in the Atlanta metro area, because they are registered in a different county.CNN has not projected a winner in the race.Republican candidate Brian Kemp currently leads Abrams with 50.3% of the vote. The CDC appears to be making slight changes to who should be tested for coronavirus for a second time this week, after their changes on Monday sparked confusion and reaction from the scientific community.On Monday, the CDC updated their website to read that testing is no longer recommended for symptom-less people who were within 6 feet of an infected person for more than 15 minutes.This set off a wave of confusion about who should be tested and the reason for the change. All questions were directed to the CDC’s parent organization, the Department of Health and Human Services.In a statement distributed to media Thursday, CDC Director Robert Redfield said those who come in contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19 patient(s) could be tested, even if they don’t show symptoms, according to TheHill.com.“Testing is meant to drive actions and achieve specific public health objectives. Everyone who needs a COVID-19 test, can get a test. Everyone who wants a test does not necessarily need a test; the key is to engage the needed public health community in the decision with the appropriate follow-up action,” Redfield said in the statement.The New York Times reports the guidelines are not changed on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website, and appears unlikely the agency will change them. 1326

The Girl Scouts of the USA revealed on Tuesday that a French-toast inspired cookie is coming in 2021.In a press release, the organization said the "Toast-Yay!" cookie, which is "dipped in delicious icing and full of flavor in every bite," will be available in select areas sometime next year.In March, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organization switched to online sales.According to the release, the 2021 cookie season will again turn to sell cookies online and through "virtual cookie booths" on social media."Many girls will offer socially distant or contactless sales and delivery options," the Girl Scouts said in the release. The girlfriend of the man killed Thursday after a shooting in a Nashville mall was taken into custody on gun charges. According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, Alexandria Lavender was arrested on two counts of theft of property, ,000 or less, and unlawful gun possession for having two stolen guns with her. The shooting happened just before 2:30 p.m. local time Thursday inside a hallway near an Auntie Anne's pretzel shop, just across from an Old Navy store. Police said two men – identified as Justin Golson and Demarco Churchwell – got into an argument that led to gunfire.Churchwell was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died. Golson was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. According to police documents, Churchwell’s girlfriend – Alexandria Lavender – was with him as he was being extracted from the mall. A witness said she had a gun in her purse, which police said could be seen in plain view from the top of the bag. Authorities said she did not have a valid handgun permit. The guns were checked by police records and were found to be reported stolen out of Dickson and Davidson counties.   1238

The calendar is about to flip from April to May, and normally storm chasers are flooding Tornado Alley to get a glimpse at the power of Mother Nature. But so far in 2018, there has not been much to chase. According to the National Weather Service, the state of Oklahoma, which is in the heart of Tornado Alley, has gone the entire year so far without a single confirmed tornado touchdown. Not since before 1950 has Oklahoma gone the first four months without a single tornado touchdown. By the end of April, the state would have averaged 17 tornado touchdowns. Last year, 13 tornadoes had touched down by the end of April. In 2016, there were 27 touchdowns in the month of April alone. In 2012, there were 54 confirmed touchdowns in April. The state of Kansas has also gone the entire year without a tornado. According to National Weather Service data, the state averages 12 tornadoes in the month of April alone. "On the whole, across the United States, we have seen around half the number of eyewitnessed tornado reports that we would normally expect by this time of year," Dr. Patrick Marsh, a meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center, told CNN. Meteorologists are blaming, or crediting, a jet stream pattern that has sent big snow storms into the Upper Midwest for the decreased number of tornadoes. The pattern has prevented warm moist air from setting up in the Plains, which has cut off any fuel for potential tornadoes. According to the Storm Prediction Center, the upcoming weekend appears to void of any major severe weather outbreaks.
