BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- China and Switzerland Saturday marked the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic ties at a reception in Beijing.Addressing the occasion, senior Chinese official Liu Qi said China hopes to take the opportunity of the 60th anniversary to enhance mutual political trust and cooperation with Switzerland in various fields.Liu, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said China attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with Switzerland, one of the first Western countries to recognize the People's Republic of China.Currently China is Switzerland's second largest trading partner in Asia, and Switzerland is a major partner of China in Europe, said Liu.Doris Leuthard, President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of Federal Department of Economic Affairs, said Swiss-China relationship has deeply developed since the establishment of the diplomatic ties on Sept. 14, 1950.Leuthard said the two economies are complementary and can achieve win-win results in fields such as environment, machinery and financial services.Leuthard is paying a working visit to China from Aug. 10 to 15, at the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Wednesday with Singapore President S.R. Nathan. They praised the development of bilateral ties and pledged to further cooperation."We attach great importance to the relations with Singapore," Hu told Nathan during the meeting at the Great Hall of the People, saying that China-Singapore relations had witnessed remarkable development since the two forged diplomatic ties 20 years ago."We applaud Singapore's adherence to the one-China policy and its support to our national reunification," Hu said.Hu said that China would work with Singapore to enhance political mutual trust and actively carry out the China-Singapore and China-ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) free trade agreements.He also expressed his hope that the two nations would increase bilateral cooperation in the high-tech and human resources sectors to achieve mutually successful results and common development.Nathan said China's economic growth was conducive to Singapore and the region at large. XI'AN, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has urged local authorities to keep flood casualties and losses to minimum and to launch reconstruction work in a timely and orderly way.Hui was speaking during an inspection of flood-affected areas in Weinan and Shangluo cities in north China's Shaanxi Province from Aug. 2 to 3.He visited affected residents, as well as soldiers who were fighting the floods, saying the flood work had entered a crucial stage.Since mid July, many areas in Shaanxi Province have seen continuous rain, leading to frequent natural disasters, such as floods, mountain torrents and mud-rock flows.Continuous rainstorms caused mud-rock flows in Zhulinguan Village of Danfeng County, Shangluo city, on July 23 and 24. Hui visited the village and urged officials to address food, drinking water, clothing and housing issues.He also called for the repair of roads and resumption of water and electricity supplies as soon as possible.Homes, schools and hospitals should be reconstruction priorities, he said.Meteorologists forecast higher than average rainfall this month along the province's Hanjiang and Weihe rivers. Hui ordered local governments to intensify flood warnings, improve response plans, reinforce reservoirs and river embankments and replenish emergency materials, so as to be well prepared for more rain and floods. 

BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), one of China's "big four" state-owned commercial banks, won the title for the world's largest initial public offering (IPO) after selling another 3.34 billion shares at its IPO price of 2.68 yuan per share.The ABC said in a statement at the Shanghai Stock Exchange Sunday that it raised an additional 8.94 billion yuan (1.31 billion U.S. dollars) after fully exercising the over-allotment option of its Shanghai share offering. The bank has now raised 22.1 billion U.S. dollars.The previous record was set by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which raised a record 21.9 billion U.S. dollars in its IPO in 2006.ABC shares rose 0.37 percent to 2.69 yuan on the Shanghai bourse Friday.The ABC is the last of the "big four" state-owned commercial lenders to go public. The other three banks -- the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Bank of China, are listed on both Shanghai and Hong Kong bourses.The over-allotment, or so-called greenshoe option, allows the sale of additional shares to the public if demand is high.
