BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao made a tour to east China's Anhui Province on Tuesday to inspect rural reform and development.     Hu, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited Xiaogang village of Fengyang county, the first in the country to initiate the household contract responsibility system in 1978. Xiaogang has since been seen as a pace-setter for the nation's rural reform.     Hu said he was glad to see the new changes that have taken place at the village in the past decades.     The current land contractual relations will be kept stable and unchanged for a long time, and we will allow farmers to transfer the right of land contract and management by various means, in accordance with their will, he said.     He said China will continue to increase spending in the development and reform of the rural areas, and to make more policies favorable to the farmers and agriculture.     Hu also pledged to increase the income of Chinese farmers and steadily improve their standard of living in order to make sure farmers benefit from China's economic development.     The third Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee, due to convene between Oct. 9 to 12, will focus on promoting reform and development in rural areas.     On Tuesday afternoon, Hu Jintao also visited two dairy companies in Anhui's Bengbu city.     "Food safety is directly linked to the well-being of the broad masses and the competence of a company," Hu said. "Chinese companies should learn from the lessons of the Sanlu tainted milk powder incident."     Companies should strengthen management and food safety checks, and make sure their products were safe for consumers, he said.     Hu also heard the work reports of Anhui province during his tour, stressing development in urban and rural areas must be coordinated and that efforts must be made to push forward rural development and reform.

BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Along with more than 3,000 teachers and students, Premier Wen Jiabao attended the opening of a temporary middle school in southwest China's quake zone as the new semester started on Monday.     Beichuan Middle School was among the hardest-hit schools in the May 12 earthquake. Wen visited students and teachers at the school three times prior to the Monday event. Now we know one thing, and it's that as long as we choose to confront adversity with courage, we will surely overcome any disaster.     "As we hold this ceremony, we can never forget the students and teachers who died in the disaster ... I hope all of you at the school will win respect and pride with hard work and tough spirits. I believe you can do it." BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday visited hospitals, communities and supermarkets in Beijing to see for himself the infants sickened by tainted milk powder and the milk market. His first stop was Beijing Children's Hospital, where many parents had brought their children for kidney tests.     Outside the consulting room, ultrasonic scan room and medical wards, Wen asked parents and children how they were faring. He was please to hear she was in good health. None of those companies with no professional ethnics or social morals will be let off," Wen said to applause.     Later, Wen went to a supermarket and checked the milk products.     "We should check every batch of the milk powder and other milk products, and mark them so buyers can be assured of their quality."     More than 6,200 infants had developed kidney stones and four infants have died after drinking baby formula tainted with melamine, a chemical illegally added to give false protein readings in tests.

HANGZHOU, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged the country's enterprises to raise their international competitiveness by speeding up transformation and adjustment in line with the changing domestic and global economic situation.     During a three-day inspection and research tour in the booming southeastern Zhejiang Province, which ended on Tuesday, Li visited textile factories, electric machinery companies and high-tech enterprises to get a first-hand assessment of enterprise reform amid a new domestic and international market climate.
