SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An 86-year-old woman, with underlying health conditions and who had been vaccinated, is the latest flu death in San Diego.The San Diego woman died on Dec. 1 from influenza A and had been vaccinated this season, the County Health and Human Agency said. Officials did not specify what underlying conditions the woman had suffered.This flu season, seven San Diegans have died from the flu. The vaccine is safe and effective.”County health officials say residents should still receive a flu vaccine.Last week, 294 flu cases were reported in the region, compared to 202 the previous week. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An online petition is growing among San Diego State University students who feel they should be partially reimbursed for tuition and other campus fees because of the pandemic. SDSU senior Kelsey Santin created the petition on Change.org Monday night. Since then, the petition has received over 3,000 signatures. Santin argues that since the way of learning has changed, so should the amount they have to pay. She also says they're paying for campus fees for services they aren't able to access on campus. SDSU started the school year with limited in-person classes and returned to all online learning after hundreds of students tested positive for COVID-19.ABC 10News reached out to SDSU for comment and a spokesperson referred us to the CSU System. A spokesperson from CSU says the money for tuition covers instruction, which students are still receiving online. Campus-based mandatory fees for things like the health center and advising are still available in a virtual format. Other mandatory fees, the spokesperson says, are fees that fund facilities that are often of a result of student referendums voted and approved by students, for things like construction or renovation of a facility. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After a year of saving, an 11-year-old San Carlos girl is finally spending all her money -- on other kids.During last year's holiday season, even before Sienna Ince opened her gifts, a question popped into her mind."Why do I get so many gifts when there are others who don't get any, and their parents just have to pay bills," said Sienna.So Sienna decided to use her birthday money and money from chores, and bought worth of gifts, with many of them going to Toys For Tots."She loaded everything onto the conveyor built at the checkout stand and paid for it ... It made me very proud of her. Love to take credit it, but it was all her," said Sienna's mother, Nichel Ince.This year, amid the pandemic, Sienna decided to step up her game. Her parents' jobs have been impacted, but not as much as for many others."I know that other people can't get gifts because parents are losing their jobs in this hard time. They can't get a lot of things. I just want to make sure everyone during this time can get gifts," said Sienna.Sienna set up lemonade stands and cooked up bake sales, and set aside the money she received from her birthday and chores. In the end, she saved about 0. Her father then made an appeal on the Nextdoor app for families, and kids in need -- of something under the tree."I want them to feel happy knowing that they're going to get gifts, and they're going to wake up and be happy with their gifts," said Sienna.Sienna has finished her shopping, which included more than 20 gifts. She just started with the wrapping, and she's issuing a challenge to kids who aren't in need."Maybe you can ask your parents to not give you one of your gifts on your list, and give something to other people ... I just want other people to see this and think that you can also make a difference," said Sienna.Sienna's parents have agreed to help her if more families come forward in need of gifts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after authorities say she was bitten by a rattlesnake near the Torrey Pines Gliderport.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the 33-year-old was hiking nearby trails when she was bitten.The woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Valencia Park dog owner is looking for the person that took his dog from his front yard Tuesday morning. Jayden Ryan’s five-month-old french bulldog, Greyson, was last seen playing in their driveway. His security camera shows Greyson walking over to the fence, but then the camera jumps to footage of a man wearing a hood walking away, and he appeared to be carrying the dog in his arms. Ryan says there were about three to four minutes of missing footage, that might have shown the man’s face, as well as how he ended up with his dog. He says the camera company told him there was an issue on the way the video uploaded. However, a neighbor saw the incident. He told Ryan, as well as 10News, that he saw the hooded man reach over the fence, pet the dog for about a minute, then grab him and walk away. The security footage picked up audio of the neighbor yelling at the hooded stranger and then chasing after him. “(My neighbor) says he tried to run after him, but he is 54 years old. He was no match for him, so he ended up getting away,” Ryan said. Neighbors said they recently saw the man in the neighborhood. Ryan says French bulldogs are expensive so they can be enticing to thieves. He would be surprised if he were casing the neighborhood. Ryan is putting up fliers, hoping someone will have information about Greyson, or the man in the video. “They didn’t just steal my dog, they stole the happiness from me,” Ryan said. San Diego Police say no suspects have been identified at this time and no arrests have been made. 1561
