SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Trump campaign is asking for a recount in Wisconsin and there could be other recounts before this election is over. But recounts rarely flip the result of an election.From 2009 to 2019, there were 5,778 statewide general elections, according to the non-partisan group FairVote. In that span there were 31 completed recounts.Only three of the 31 recounts flipped the outcome of the race, FairVote found. Those recounts were a Washington governor’s race in 2004, an auditor’s race in Vermont in 2006, and a 2008 race in Minnesota that made Al Franken a U.S. Senator.Deb Otis, a senior research analyst with FairVote, said in all three of these cases, the original margin heading into the recount was razor thin: less than .05 percent.“We generally see a shift in votes during recounts on the order of a few hundred votes or maybe 1000 votes,” said Otis. “The margin in Wisconsin right now is around 20,000 votes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Fertility Center will be the first in the nation to deploy new robotic technology that will help store, track and maintain frozen embryos for In-Vitro Fertilization.The TMRW Robot will be in use by next month at the center in Carmel Valley. It will take 17,000 measurements every day to make sure the embryos are kept in prime conditions.It also codes each embryo and egg with a specific Radio Frequency ID to make sure scientists can track each one."There needs to be this level of trust between the mother and father and the caretakers of their embryos," says Dr. Michael Kettel with the SDFC. "I think this goes one step further in building that trust."Since IVF treatment began, most of the storage and measurements taken on embryos has been done by hand, in tanks that hold up to 1,000 samples. The TMRW Robot will have room for nearly 20,000 embryos and make the process fully automatic. However, most public schools in the county are continuing in distance learning.“It’s tiring, to say the least,” said teacher Kelly Martin. She teachers in the Chula Vista Elementary School District.Dawn Harrison also teaches in that district. While she dealt with some technical problems with her first-grade class, she said “it went better than I thought it would go.”Martin said she has been able to make connections with her students even through a computer screen. She also met virtually with each student one-on-one.“It’s been a challenge with tech issues outside of our control… people’s cameras aren’t working, people’s microphones aren’t working. I feel like besides being a teacher, I’ve taken on the role of tech support!” Martin said.ABC 10News first checked in with the teachers at the end of July before the school year started. Since then, Harrison said she has dealt with a rollercoaster of emotions. “Fear, anxiety, stress, a little bit of excitement,” Harrison said.She’s not the only one in her household dealing with an unusual school year. Her husband, Rick Meads, is a teacher at Eastlake High School.“I have 160 students or so. I see most of them every day. There are some that are still struggling with access,” Meads said.He teaches theater, drama, and digital arts. While he said he is missing out on the personal interaction with students, he is adjusting his curriculum.“Instead of doing a fall play this year, we’re going to do a radio show. They’re writing their own script. It’s going to be a Halloween, scary type of thing,” Meads said.They all say being in the classroom with their students is easier that distance learning, which involves a lot more preparation.“I’m definitely working longer hours.
