WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Florida's coronavirus daily cases record was obliterated Sunday with 15,300, nearly 4,000 more than the previous high and 24 percent of the U.S. total, as daily tests soared to 142,981 but new deaths subsided to 45, the Florida Department of Health announced.The previous state record for cases was set one week ago Saturday with 11,458. Last Sunday, total cases passed 200,000.Since the first two deaths were announced on March 6, the death toll has climbed to 4,242, which is ninth in the nation. The number of nonresident deaths listed by the state remained at 104 for a total death count of 4,346.Deaths rose by 511 in the state over seven days for 13.7 percent. The U.S. figure is 3.6 percent with the world at 6.4 percent.Testing has dramatically ramped up from just a few at select sites to massive places throughout Florida as well as nursing homes, jails and farm workers. The total now is 2,576,813, fourth in the nation, behind No. 1 New York, No. 2 California and No. 3 Texas. That figure is more than 12 percent of Florida's population of 21.4 million.Likewise the positive rate has risen to 10.5 percent overall from 10.3 the day before. WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wisc. -- A Town of Merton man was charged after he called police when sex workers he hired allegedly stole his phone.Scott A Peschmann, 41, along with Victoria Pena, 24, and Maria Lebron, 27, were charged with prostitution and theft after meeting at Peschmann's home for sex, according to the criminal complaint. "Officers made contact with Scott Peschmann who indicated that three females had been at his residence and had stolen his cell phone and 0 in cash," said the criminal complaint. Peschmann had met Pena on the website, "back page," and arranged for an "intimate evening." They agreed upon a price of 0 for various sexual acts.  "Peshmann indicated that he had left four 0 bills on the corner fo the front room desk as a donation for the girls," said the criminal complaint. Peshmann noticed that his cell phone and the money were missing when Lebron went to the car to get a condom. The women were later stopped after officers spotted their vehicle and Peschman's phone was found in Lebron's purse.   1120

WASHINGTON D.C. — A 17-year-old boy was killed and 20 people were shot, including an off-duty police officer, in Washington D.C. early Sunday morning at a large gathering.The victim was identified as 17-year-old Christopher Brown and police say the off-duty 1st District police officer was shot and is in the hospital fighting for her life.Officers said another 17-year-old was shot and the other victims were all adults and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.The police chief said there were multiple shooters and at least 11 of the 20 people shot were women. “There was some kind of a dispute,” said Police Chief Peter Newsham, with the Metropolitan Police Department. “Multiple weapons were produced,” he told reporters. He said a motive for the shooting wasn’t clear.The chief also said they would be talking to building management about the gathering and officers will be looking at whether more could be done to break up the group.At this time, officers believe the gathering started late Saturday night and shots were fired just after midnight. "Sadly, some people who have no regard for human life, opened fire," said Mayor Muriel Bowser, reiterating that drinking and using marijuana in the street is illegal in D.C., as is having a gathering of this size.
