(KGTV) – A 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after police said he was driving a SUV that rolled over at a Chula Vista rock quarry.Police said the incident happened at around 2 a.m. Wednesday in an area off Hard Rock Road, near Heritage Road.According to police, an SUV driven by the teen crashed through a gate at a rock quarry and then rolled over. Witnesses reported seeing several juveniles get out of the wreckage and run away from the scene.The 13-year-old driver remained with the SUV and was questioned by police before being transported to the hospital. (KGTV) - Surveillance video shows a woman at the front door of a home in Chula Vista doing a face-plant to avoid police.Along Paseo Burga, Lillie Utz got an unexpected visitor outside her front door as she was sewing Christmas presents on Saturday afternoon.Through a window, Utz saw a woman racing back and forth in her front yard. Turns out neighbors had seen the same woman running in and out of yards. At least one of them had called police. Soon after, video shows a woman at Utz's front door. I was about six feet away sewing," said Utz. In the video, the woman can't get in, so she kneels and hides. (KGTV) -- Police arrested a man on suspicion of breaking into a Wells Fargo bank in Chula Vista early Thursday morning.Bank security personnel contacted Chula Vista police at around 2 a.m. after they saw a man break the front window at the branch on 1232 Broadway and enter the business.According to police, security cameras showed the man “going through the drawers behind the counters.”Police surrounded the bank as some officers entered the business. Officers arrested the man, later identified as 25-year-old Rene Torres, without incident.Police said officers at the scene determined Torres “pried open most of the cash drawers but was unable to access the vault or currency storage areas. He did cause a lot of damage to the interior of the building.”ABC 10News learned officers discovered several rolls of coins in the suspect’s backpack that police presumed to be from the bank.Torres was arrested on suspicion of burglary and booked at CVPD headquarters. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — As schools try to navigate the future of in-person education in the era of coronavirus, Southwestern College is already returning some students to campus. The Southwestern College Higher Education Center in Otay Mesa welcomed nursing and health occupational students, along with students in the public safety program, back to campus June 1. These students are training to fill jobs like nurses, EMTs, paramedics, and more.Dean Sylvia Cornejo said since March, they have been using technology for remote learning, but the school has been planning on bringing these students back as quickly as possible because of their careers and the need for essential workers right now.RELATED: San Diego Office of Education releases guidance to reopen schools“The students got as far as they could with online instruction but really we needed to be able to bring them back to campus for all of their practical labs,” she said.She said this location has returned to campus because of the nature of the students, but most of the five Southwestern College locations will remain remote for the fall term.
