SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of a YouTube star who drove his McLaren the wrong way on the 805 last year, killing a mom and her daughter, are suing the City of San Diego, County of San Diego, and the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT).The lawsuit claims the “horrific and tragic event” was entirely preventable.Eighteen-year-old Trevor Heitmann, known as McSkillet, drove his McLaren the wrong way on the freeway in August 2018, killing Aileen Pizarro and her 12-year-old daughter Aryana. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Surveillance footage captured a man attacking a gas station customer in Kearny Mesa before fleeing.A 54-year-old man was paying for his coffee at the Mobil station at 8380 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. on Saturday just after 3 p.m., when the suspect began speaking to the man. Police said the suspect was not making any sense when he was speaking to the victim.Then for no reason, the man pulled a small wooden bat from a tool bag and began to hit the victim on the back of his head. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance video and photographs were released Tuesday in the search for three men suspected of an armed robbery at a Mission Valley apartment complex. The men approached a man and woman in the parking structure of the Millennium Apartments at 5080 Camino Del Arroyo at 11:30 p.m. Mar. 20, San Diego Police said. Officers said the men spoke Spanish and told the victims, “Give me everything you have! Fast!” The men took luggage and a purse from the victims and were last seen running onto Camino del Rio North, according to investigators.Police believe the men may have driven away from the area in a white, early 2000’s Hyundai Sonata or Kia Optima eastbound on Camino del Rio North, then north on Camino del Arroyo. The first man was Hispanic, 26 to 32 years old, with a stocky build. He was wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, white shoes, and a black hat with white lettering. Police said the second man was Hispanic, 25 to 30 years old, with a stocky build. He had on a black t-shirt, black shorts, black shoes with white accents, and a black hat. The third man was Hispanic, 30 to 40 years old, with an athletic build, black and silver Raiders track jacket, black pants, black shoes with white accents, and a black hat. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego is resuming its enforcement of all parking regulations this month.From Wednesday, July 1, through July 14, the city will issue written warnings for vehicles parked in violation of:-- Posted street sweeping routes-- Metered parking restrictions-- Curb time limits-- Commercial zonesCitations will continue to be issued for vehicles parked illegally at red, white and blue painted curbs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The ACLU is threatening to sue ICE over a policy that forbids detention center volunteers from speaking with the press.Souls Offering Loving and Compassionate Ears, also known as SOLACE, is not allowed to help at the Otay Mesa Detention Center until they sign a form promising not to speak with the media.In August, ICE discovered SOLACE wasn’t in compliance with their protocol before asking the group to resubmit the paperwork for their volunteers.ICE says the code of ethics is in place for the safety of the detainees. “These are often folks who don't have any family or friends in the United States so even if they could write or call they don't have anyone to connect with,” said Angela Fujii, a social justice coordinator with the First Unitarian Universalist.SOLACE volunteers are ready to help, but they want to make sure they can share with others about the place where things are kept pretty tight.SOLACE was also briefly barred from visiting during the Obama Administration but the compromise was met.Other groups are providing detainees with services, but SOLACE was the only one allowed to regularly visit. 1148
