SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – SeaWorld San Diego will partially reopen to the public later this week.Starting Friday, Aug. 28, the park will open its doors to guests for what it is calling Zoo Days: Bayside BBQ & Brews.In a press release, the company said, “With enhanced health and safety measures, guests can safely roam the park’s expansive grounds, enjoy amazing animal exhibits and presentations, and savor a limited-time food and beverage experience with all new BBQ and beer-infused menus throughout the park, paired with San Diego’s best craft brews.”In addition to the food and drink offerings, guests will be able to enjoy the park’s outdoor animal exhibits and shows such as the Dolphin, Sea Lion and Orca EncounterThe special event will run on weekends from Aug. 28-Sept. 27. The event will also take place on Labor Day weekend.A limited number of guests will be allowed in the park on each day, with park hours from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.Park officials suggest guests purchase tickets in advance:“All guests, including Fun Card holders and Pass Members must purchase a date-specific ticket online to this limited time experience. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students and teachers from two classes at Sage Canyon School in Carmel Valley will have to return to online distance learning for two weeks after two people tested positive for COVID-19.In a statement to ABC 10News, Jenni Huh, the Del Mar Union School District Director of Student Services, said:“The District has confirmed two positive cases of COVID-19 at Sage Canyon School. All students and staff who were directly exposed have been contacted and will be quarantining for 14 days. The District has been in consultation with the San Diego County Department of Public Health.”Parent Amy Berkley said she was notified of the two positive cases on Sunday. She has two sons who attend the school and said her third-grader was in the same class as one of the people who tested positive.“They had two students in the school test positive, one was in first grade and the other in third grade,” Berkley said. “We got the notification on Sunday, and by Monday morning, all class materials were available for pickup, really easy and convenient.”While the positive cases are alarming for some parents, Berkley, who is also the PTA president, said she was pleased with how the situation was handled. Her son didn’t miss a school day as the classrooms impacted transitioned back to distance learning Monday.“We picked up a Chromebook, learning packet, homework worksheet, whiteboard all the material they’ll need; it was very well thought out.”According to the Del Mar Union School District’s safe reopening plan, if a student or teacher tests positive for COVID-19, the whole class will quarantine for 14 days, and learning will be offered remotely. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego's next thrill ride has been given the all clear by the state.The California Coastal Commission Wednesday approved the park's request for a dive coaster called Mako, set to open at the park next year. The roller coaster is already being billed as the "tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in California," and the only floorless dive coaster in the state.The San Diego City Council gave the 153-foot ride unanimous approval last April, allowing SeaWorld to exceed the city's 30-foot height limitation in coastal zones.RELATED: SeaWorld San Diego brings back its popular annual SoCal PassSeaWorld says construction on Mako should begin in the next few months.The ride, announced in January, will be constructed by Switzerland-based Bollinger & Mabillard. With more Indian reservations than any other county in the United States, San Diego powwows help keep those traditions alive."We all try to come together and share the culture, do the best we can to teach our children. I was born and raised on the reservation, but my kids were not, so it's hard to instill the same teachings that I was brought up with," said Emerald Arnold, born and raised on the Navajo reservation.Children and adults dressed in colorful regalia for the powwow, which was held Saturday at the Harold J. Ballard Parent Center in Old Town. We can have our rights restored, our heritage recognized."Native American veterans were honored at the powwow, including 102-year-old Joe Renteria, a World War II Navy veteran."It brings different people here, and it's just like a family reunion, that's what it amounts to."While each tribe has its own teachings, culture, and traditions, they come together as one at the powwow.
