SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego International Airport is making travel more accessible to blind and visually-impaired customers.They've partnered with San Diego startup Aira, a company which uses augmented reality to connect people with visual impairments to live agents.Through smart glasses or a smartphone camera, the agent becomes the customer's eyes, guiding them through the airport.While users typically pay a monthly Aira subscription, the service is now available free at select airports, helping customers through security, to restaurants, and baggage claim."My first time that I traveled alone after losing my vision, I was a wreck, I mean a wreck," said Maria Johnson, who became legally blind as an adult.“The thing about having Aira with you when traveling is you always have somebody with you," said Johnson.Johnson has a rare mitochondrial disease and started losing her vision six years ago. Shortly after her 50th birthday, she was legally blind. “I’m a mom, I have two kids, I’m a group fitness instructor, I was running a boot camp and running classes all over San Diego, and all of a sudden this happened," said Johnson.Johnson has used adaptive technologies like Aira to adjust to her new reality but admits it was difficult to ask for help in the beginning.“The beauty of it is that’s what the agent is there for, no job is too small or too big for an Aira agent," said Johnson.The Aira agent not only can see where the customer is but has access to an airport map.Airport officials say it's part of a broader mission to continue innovating at Lindbergh. 1591

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This month, Old Town's Whaley House Museum will open its doors for extended hours and invite guests in for a night of haunts and history.Every October, visitors can stop by during the museum's extended hours. This month, they take place Oct. 24 - 31. The two-story home and store addition was added in 1857 by Thomas Whaley. It was the first two-story brick edifice in San Diego and built using bricks made in Whaley's brickyard.The house operated as one of the first stores in the Old Town area and at one time was Whaley's home, a courtroom, a general store, and a theater simultaneously.While the store served the community in multiple ways during the 1800s, it seems its residents of one of the most haunted homes in America have stayed behind to watch over the grounds.During tours, museum guides will explore the stories of Whaley; his wife, Anna; their children, Violet and Tommie; and "Yankee" Jim Robinson — all of whom are believed to still be at the home in some form."Yankee Jim" was hanged on the grounds in 1852. Guests have reported heavy footsteps and windows being unlatched and opened — even Whaley himself. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — There have been 137 community outbreaks reported in San Diego County since June 1, according to San Diego County health officials.Since March 25, the county has reported 164 community outbreaks that have resulted in 1,220 coronavirus cases:March: 3April: 16May: 8June: 34July: 93August: 10County officials broke those numbers down from June 1, 2020, to Aug. 4, 2020, where the majority of community outbreaks have been reported at restaurant/bar and business settings. See the data below:The county adds that community outbreaks between June and August from business, restaurant, and restaurant/bar settings have resulted in a total of 212 cases in June, 508 cases in July, and 48 cases in August.On Wednesday, the county reported 30 community outbreaks, much high than the county's trigger of seven in a week.Even though a restaurant or restaurant/bar is linked to a community outbreak, County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten says that doesn't mean a business is failing to adhere to public health orders.RELATED: San Diego County Board approves plan to allow businesses to operate at county parks"It may not mean there's anything going on wrong at the restaurant or at the restaurant/bar," Wooten said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The vision of SDSU's future home field is coming into focus after brand new renderings were unveiled Saturday at Aztec Football Fan Fest.This comes after a November ballot measure to redevelop the SDCCU Stadium site with a professional soccer stadium.
