A large earthquake has been reported off the southern coast of Alaska Monday afternoon. The United States Geological Survey reports the quake measured 7.5 magnitude. Originally, the organization reported it as 7.4 magnitude. It triggered tsunami warnings along the Alaskan Peninsula coastline, according to the U.S. Tsunami Warning System. The tsunami warning does not stretch south to Canada or the rest of the US west coast at this time. 449

A doctor was shot and killed in the parking lot of Affinity Medical Center in Massillon, Ohio on Monday afternoon and then the gunman turned the gun on himself, according to Massillon police. The gunman, Michael Wood, died from the self-inflicted injuries in the parking lot, police said.  322

A Long Island man is facing charges after striking protesters with his vehicle Monday evening at a Black Lives Matter march, police in Suffolk County said.Authorities said Anthony Cambareri, 36, was driving his Toyota RAV4 westbound on Broadway in Huntington Station when he struck two protesters standing in the roadway around 6:45 p.m.The two pedestrians were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.Police said Cambareri fled the scene but was caught moments later.Facebook user Matthew Showtyme posted video on Facebook reportedly of the driver stopped just after the incident.Warning: The below video contains language some readers may find offensive. Cambareri was not injured and his vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.Suffolk County police said the Coram man was arrested on third-degree assault charges and issued a desk appearance ticket. A candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives in Maine has apologized after taking to Twitter to attack a student activist in Parkland.Leslie Gibson, a Republican, originally tweeted "There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you're frothing at the mouth moonbat." Gibson wrote this about 18-year-old Emma Gonzalez.Gonzalez has been at the forefront of those speaking out following a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, 2018 in Parkland, Florida. She is leading the fight to make assault rifles harder to obtain.The candidate's attack tweets were deleted, and Gibson tweeted an apology, saying, "You are doing work that is important to you. I would like to extend my hand in friendship and to understand you."Gibson had been running unopposed for the seat in the 57th District in Maine. The Sun Journal reports Democrat Eryn Gilchrist, a 28-year-old Connecticut native now living in Maine, filed paperwork after the comments were made and there was a push for someone to run against Gibson.The seat is now contested, the Sun Journal reports.It appears Gibson has since removed the Twitter account, @LeslieEGibson2, and those discussing the situation on Twitter are using a hashtag, #LeslieEGibson. 1358

A California high school student has been charged with two counts of battery stemming from a fight involving a Donald Trump "Make America Great Again" cap, according to KOVR-TVCell phone video of the fight shows a Union Mine High School student confronting and yelling at a fellow student wearing a red MAGA hat in support of President Trump. After yelling at her classmate, she reportedly grabbed the hat off his head and threw it on the ground and left the classroom, according to the El Dorado Sheriff's Office.The student later returned to the classroom and again removed the student's hat. The teacher escorted the girl out of the classroom, and she reportedly slapped him on the arm as he led her out. A school resource officer arrested the girl in the hallway. She was taken to a local juvenile detention center and suspended from school, according to KTXL-TV. The girl was charged with two counts of battery, once against the student with the MAGA hat, the other against the teacher."“…student and staff safety is our highest priority and the UMHS administration will continue to cooperate with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office as the incident is being investigated,” the school said in a statement, according to KTXL.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W.
