SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two local hikers are back in San Diego and after making a bizarre discovery on a remote trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.On a beautiful day two weeks ago, Tyler Hofer and Brandon Follin were in their second day of a hike up Mt. Williamson, the state's second's highest peak."Very remote, very rugged," said Hofer.The 14,000-foot summit was just three hours away when they got a bit off track in a boulder-filled area near a lake."It's called the Williamson Bowl. It's a bowl at the foot of Mt. Williamson," said Hofer.Inside the rocky bowl, the two were stepping across boulders when something caught Hofer's eye."I look down and see what appears to be a different color rock. Instead of gray, it's white," said Hofer.Wedged under a small boulder was a human skull."We just start removing rocks about one to two feet in diameter," said Hofer.Under those rocks was a skeleton, mostly intact."The arms were crossed on its chest ... as if you were lying in a casket or coffin ... almost as if someone laid it there peacefully," said Hofer. Also buried in the rocks: the remnants of a leather belt and rubber shoes. "In shock and in awe of what we found and the context in which we found it," said Hofer.The two reached the summit to get cell service and reported their findings to Inyo County deputies. Investigators say there are no signs of foul play and no matches to any missing persons reports. Based on the state of decomposition, the coroner believes the skeleton is several decades old."I'm just honored to be part of uncovering this mystery, because that's what it is," said Hofer.Hofer, a local youth pastor, is hopeful the discovery will lead to answers."That gives me a lot of joy knowing someone is going to get closure. That is someone's loved one," said Hofer.Investigators say they're following up on tips that have poured in. They also plan to conduct DNA tests, before matching results against genealogy databases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While enjoying a moment at the park over the weekend, a Carlsbad family was on the receiving end of an act of kindness from a stranger. The family says they are now hoping to find that person to say thank you.After months of staying at home, the family was excited to spend a day at Buccaneer Park in Oceanside. Eleven-year-old Jacobi and 12-year-old Jordan couldn’t wait to get outside.“They’re too old of the playground area, the swings and things like that,” says mom Tamara Coronado. “They look forward to the open space, the grass area, and definitely the basketball courts.”But Coronado says park officials had not yet reinstalled the basketball hoops, something the boys were looking forward to. The kids were left to make up their own games. It caught the attention of one man.“Forty-five minutes to an hour later, he came back… with a crafting reef from Dollar Tree and a very small basketball that would fit inside.”The man used a power drill to attach the wreath to a tree to form a makeshift hoop so that the boys could play basketball.“All that he asked was that we leave the wreath and the ball in place so that after we left, other families could use it,” says Coronado. “But the fact that he went out of his way like he did was, I just couldn’t believe it.”The mom says even though a lot is going on around the country, she wants others to know there are still kind people in the world. The family didn’t get the man’s name, but they’re hoping to find him to say thank you.“He may have not thought twice about it, and hasn’t thought about it since, but he really touched me and my family.” 1632

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people are dead after a car and semi-truck collided during a Border Patrol pursuit in Otay Mesa Tuesday night, agents say. According to Border Patrol, two people were seen crossing over the border into the United States early Tuesday night. Agents described them as a man and a woman.The agency told 10News a getaway car was waiting for the pair. The driver of the car led agents on a high-speed chase reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. RELATED: Three hospitalized after Border Patrol chase leads to crash in CampoThe pursuit lasted for about a quarter of a mile before the driver reportedly lost control and crashed into the back of a semi-truck, forcing the car beneath the truck and into a ditch. Two of the men inside the vehicle died while the woman was taken to the hospital and, as of Tuesday night, was listed in critical condition. The identity of the victims hasn’t been released. 937
