SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 33-year-old man was shot three times Sunday while driving with a companion, police said.The shooting happened at 1:22 a.m. at the intersection of Mary Lou Street and A Street when a man standing on the corner opened fire at the victim's vehicle multiple times, said Officer S. Gavin Newsom ordered that flags at the state Capitol be flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of the eight Marines and one Navy sailor who died when an amphibious assault vehicle sank during a training mission last week near San Clemente Island."Jennifer and I were heartbroken to learn of the loss of nine service members in an accident off San Clemente Island," Newsom said in a statement. "It is a painful reminder of the sacrifice of members of our armed forces, who put their lives on the line for us. We stand united in mourning with their families and fellow Marines and sailors."The amphibious troop-transport vehicle was en route to a waiting ship about 80 miles off the coast of Encinitas about 5:45 p.m. last Thursday when it started taking on water for unknown reasons, according to Lt. Gen. Joseph Osterman, commanding general of 1st MEF.Seven members of the Camp Pendleton-based crew survived the accident. Medics took two of them to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where both were admitted in critical status. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old boy suspected of stealing a vehicle and leading police in San Diego on a short pursuit was hospitalized Monday evening with a broken hip after being ejected or jumping from the vehicle and being run over before the Jeep struck a traffic signal pole.Officers received information about a 2019 Jeep Compass stolen from the 3800 block of Fairmount Avenue about 7:20 p.m. and spotted the vehicle speeding and attempted to stop it near 54th Street and University Avenue, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.The driver fled southbound on 54th Street and ran red lights, prompting the pursuit to be terminated, Buttle said.The suspect continued southbound on 54th Street, crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed in the Chollas Creek area into a traffic signal, where he was either ejected or tried to get out of the Jeep before it stopped and was run over, pinning his arm under a tire, Buttle said.Firefighters freed the suspect from under the Jeep and he was taken to a hospital with a fractured hip.Two 16-year-old girls in the Jeep were taken to a hospital to be evaluated, Buttle said. 1161

Pete Wilson has been removed from a San Diego park after critics said the governor supported laws and policies that hurt immigrants and LGBTQ community members.
