OTTAWA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Friday that inter-parliamentary exchanges are an integral part of China-Canada relations and of great significance for enhancing mutual understanding and public endorsement of bilateral links.Hu made the remarks when meeting Noel Kinsella, speaker of the Canadian Senate, and Peter Milliken, speaker of the House of Commons.Over the years, said Hu, the National People's Congress (NPC), China's legislature, has maintained a sound relationship of cooperation and friendly exchanges with both chambers of the Canadian parliament.Chinese President Hu Jintao (C) meets with Canadian Senate Speaker Noel A. Such activities have played an important role in advancing bilateral relations, Hu added.The Chinese president expressed the hope that the two sides will continue to make good use of the important platform to further advance exchanges on legislation and regulation so as to promote the friendship between the two peoples and the relationship between the two countries.Over the past four decades, China-Canada relations have always moved forward despite changes in the international situation, and the two countries have conducted frequent contacts at various levels and achieved remarkable results in bilateral cooperation, Hu noted.

MOSCOW, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Mayors of Beijing and Moscow signed here Thursday cooperative plan between the two cities for 2010- 2012.Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov introduced the municipal administration, city plan and economic development to his Beijing counterpart Guo Jinlong, who led a delegation for a visit to Russia starting from June 20.Based on the cooperative plan, official delegations will engage in mutual visits during the three years, as well as exchanges between experts on energy efficiency, security, telecommunications, mass media and management.The plan said both sides would expand cooperation and provide support for each other on promoting economy, city plan and technologies.The two cities would also further develop collaboration and contact in education, social security, environment protection, heritage conservation, culture, sanitation, sports, city infrastructure, among other things.Beijing municipal government also donated two buses with green energy to Moscow.

XINING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu said Sunday the government would soon implement the reconstruction plan for quake-hit Yushu in northwest China's Qinghai Province.Hui made the remarks at a meeting of the State Council's earthquake relief and disaster control headquarters held Sunday in Xining, capital of Qinghai, according a statement released after the meeting."We must strive to accomplish major reconstruction tasks in three years in a coordinated and scientific way and in accordance with the law," Hui said.Yushu was hit by a 7.1-magnitude quake April 14, with more than 2,200 people being killed and thousands of homes being flattened.The State Council approved the reconstruction plan for Yushu prefecture on June 14.Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu (C) speaks at the reconstruction meeting for the quake-hit Yushu of northwest China's Qinghai Province, in Xining, northwest China's Qinghai Province, June 20, 2010. Hui Liangyu urged local government to pay more attention to improve people's living conditions during reconstruction in the quake-hit Yushu.Hui said the reconstruction must be carried out strictly according to the plan, while calling for a timely allocation of sufficient government funds.He called on builders, mainly from other parts of China, to aid the reconstruction efforts.Under the approved plan, reconstruction in the quake zone will be mainly funded by the central government.Related central ministries and departments must step up supervision and inspection to ensure no violations of regulations occur, Hui said.According to Hui, the State Council had decided to replace the quake relief and disaster control headquarters, set up one day after the Yushu quake, with a new office which will be charged with coordinating and guiding the reconstruction.The new office will be led by Zhang Ping, chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission.

  

YUSHU, Qinghai, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the quake zones in China's far northwestern Qinghai Province would be quadrupled by 2015 on the basis of that of last year, Luo Huining, governor of the province said here Friday."By the end of China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), the GDP in Qinghai quake zones would reach four times as much as that of 2009, with the service industry accounting for 45 percent of it," Luo said during an exclusive interview with Xinhua, exactly 100 days after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Yushu in April.The earthquake left 2,698 people dead and 270 missing.Luo said local authorities would focus on improving public services and promoting urbanization of the quake zones during the reconstruction phase.According to Luo, authorities would try to help all farmers and herdsmen in the region settle down within three years, upgrade their housing facilities, and provide them with basic access to safe drinking water."By the end of this year, local government would invest 5.55 billion yuan to rebuild 80 percent of farmers' houses in the quake zones," Luo said. Total investment in housing reconstruction in the regions would reach 9.6 billion yuan within three years.

  

BEIJING, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese chartered planes carrying 195 Chinese nationals who were evacuated from Kyrgyzstan arrived at an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region early Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry said.The Chinese government dispatched the two Boeing 737-700 passenger planes late Monday to bring back Chinese nationals living in southern Kyrgyzstan, where ethnic clashes has left more than 120 dead.The first plane landed at 4:25 a.m. (Beijing Time) and the second, 5:20 a.m.(Beijing Time), according to Chinese diplomats waiting at the airport.The government dispatched two working groups to Kyrgyzstan and Urumqi on Monday for the evacuation task.A chartered plane of China Southern Airlines gets ready to take off at the airport in Urumqi, northwest of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on June 14, 2010. China on Monday dispatched two chartered planes to bring home Chinese nationals in Kyrgyzstan, where ethnic clashes in the south have left at least 124 people dead and some 1,400 others injured.About 600 of the more than 1,000 Chinese living in south Kyrgyzstan have asked for early evacuation from the region, the ministry said.Diplomatic sources said another two chartered planes will bring back the rest of the Chinese nationals on Tuesday.It will be the largest evacuation task since April 2006, when Chinese chartered planes brought home some 400 nationals from riot-hit Solomon Islands.
