New data on the number of children in America who have contracted the coronavirus shows kids now make up 11 percent of the total number of positive cases.According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, between October 8 and 22, more than 94,500 children tested positive for the coronavirus in states that report cases by age. This is a 14 percent increase over two weeks.The AAP says this brings the total number of children in American who have tested positive to more than 792,000, which is 11 percent of the more than 7.2 million people in this country who have tested positive since the pandemic began.In the previous period in late September, children cases made up 10.7 percent of total coronavirus cases in America.The states with a high percent increase in coronavirus cases among children are the same that are seeing spikes in total coronavirus cases; including Utah, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, New Hampshire, New Mexico and Wisconsin. U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis's ruling invalidates Wolf’s suspension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which shields young people from deportation. Wolf effectively suspended the program in July, a month after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against President Donald Trump's efforts to end it. Garaufis wrote Saturday that DHS failed to follow an order of succession established when then-Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigned in April 2019. Neil Simon was 91.According to Bill Evans, Simon's longtime friend and the Shubert Organization director of media relations, says the playwright died early Sunday of complications from pneumonia in a Manhattan hospital.Simon was the American theater's most successful and prolific playwright in the second half of the 20th century. He won three regular Tonys, plus one for special achievement, as well as a Pulitzer and the Mark Twain prize for humor.Simon's successes included "The Sunshine Boys," ''Plaza Suite" and "Sweet Charity." NIPAWIN, Saskatchewan (AP) — Canadian police said early Saturday 14 people were killed and 14 people were injured after a truck collided with a bus carrying a junior hockey team to a playoff game in Western Canada.Police say there were 28 people, including the driver, on board the bus of the Humboldt Broncos team when the crash occurred around 5 p.m. Friday on Highway 35 in Saskatchewan."We can now confirm fourteen people have died as a result of this collision," The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a release early Saturday."The other fourteen people were sent to hospitals with a variety of injuries; three of these people have injuries that are critical in nature."No names were released, and police would not say whether players or coaches were among the dead. There was no mention of the truck driver.The team president said parents from across Western Canada were rushing to the scene as they struggled to cope with the tragedy."It's one of the hardest days of my life," said Kevin Garinger.
